Financial Distress and Corporate Turnaround

The work of Martin Schmuck empirically investigates the phenomenon of financial distress and corporate turnaround in the automotive supplier industry. Based on a sample of 194 publicly listed automotive suppliers, the effectiveness of managerial, operational, financial, and asset restructuring activities is analyzed in a multivariate research setting. Archetypes for successful turnarounds are identified and matched with strategies of non-distressed companies.

Renormalization and Effective Field Theory

Renormalization and Effective Field Theory

Quantum field theory has had a profound influence on mathematics, and on geometry in particular. However, the notorious difficulties of renormalization have made quantum field theory very inaccessible for mathematicians. This provides complete mathematical foundations for the theory of perturbative quantum field theory, based on Wilson's ideas of low-energy effective field theory and on the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism.

From Quantum to Cosmos

Space-based laboratory research in fundamental physics is an emerging research discipline that offers great discovery potential and at the same time could drive the development of technological advances which are likely to be important to scientists and technologists in many other different research fields. The articles in this review volume have been contributed by participants of the international workshop ?From Quantum to Cosmos: Fundamental Physics Research in Space? held at the Airlie Center in Warrenton, Virginia, USA, on May 21?24, 2006. This unique volume discusses the advances in our understanding of fundamental physics that are anticipated in the near future, and evaluates the disc...

Hommage an Salvador Dalí

  • Categories: Art

Le Surréalisme, c'est moi!" in Salvador Dalì presents one of the most significant artists of the 20th century in a contemporary context. The oeuvre of Salvador Dalí and his influence, at work even today, the visionary, often unrecognised aspects of his unusually multi-faceted but also provocative and controversially received creative work equally foreshadow the media marketing strategies of the art market, as well as current Surrealist tendencies in contemporary art. Exhibition: Kunsthalle Wien (22.6-23.10.2011).

The Cosmic Cocktail

The inside story of the epic quest to solve the mystery of dark matter The ordinary atoms that make up the known universe—from our bodies and the air we breathe to the planets and stars—constitute only 5 percent of all matter and energy in the cosmos. The rest is known as dark matter and dark energy, because their precise identities are unknown. The Cosmic Cocktail is the inside story of the epic quest to solve one of the most compelling enigmas of modern science—what is the universe made of?—told by one of today's foremost pioneers in the study of dark matter. Blending cutting-edge science with her own behind-the-scenes insights as a leading researcher in the field, acclaimed theore...

Factorization Algebras in Quantum Field Theory

This first volume develops factorization algebras with a focus upon examples exhibiting their use in field theory, which will be useful for researchers and graduates.
