It provides detailed descriptions of the contents of precious botanical collections amassed by natives of Arezzo, or simply conserved in institutions situated within the territory. Una storia dei 100 anni dell’Ateneo, calata nella lunga durata dell’alta formazione in città, dalle origini medievali e proto-moderne, alla sua progressiva istituzionalizzazione, alla vigilia dell’Unità e quindi nel periodo di Firenze capitale, sino alla nascita della Università degli Studi, il primo ottobre del 1924. Nel ventennio fascista, l’Ateneo conosce un significativo sviluppo, ma subisce, pesantemente, l’invadenza del regime. Protagonista, con i suoi uomini migliori, della progettazione della Repubblica, intreccerà, con la ricchissima articolazione del territorio, una fitta rete di relazioni, accompagnandone la crescita e ricevendone stimoli profondi, in una dialettica – qui attentamente ricostruita – che vedrà la progressiva trasformazione di un insegnamento, troppo a lungo elitario, in università di massa, in parallelo ai profondi mutamenti del paese.
