Despite initial set backs in the 1980s, the prospect for large scale integration of optical devices with high spatial-density and low energy consumption for information applications has grown steadily in the past decade. At the same time these advances have been made towards classical information processing with integrated optics, largely in an engineering context, a broad physics community has been pursuing quantum information processing platforms, with a heavy emphasis on optics-based networks. But despite these similarities, the two communities have exchanged models and techniques to a very limited degree. The aim of this thesis is to provide examples of the advantages of an engineering p...
Quantum stochastic calculus has become an indispensable tool in modern quantum physics, its effectiveness being illustrated by recent developments in quantum control which place the calculus at the heart of the theory. Quantum statistics is rapidly taking shape as an intrinsically quantum counterpart to classical statistics, motivated by advances in quantum engineering and the need for better statistical inference tools for quantum systems. This volume contains a selection of regular research articles and reviews by leading researchers in quantum control, quantum statistics, quantum probability and quantum information. The selection offers a unified view of recent trends in quantum stochastics, highlighting the common mathematical language of Hilbert space operators, and the deep connections between classical and quantum stochastic phenomena.
Modern quantum measurement for graduate students and researchers in quantum information, quantum metrology, quantum control and related fields.
Quantum information describes the new field which bridges quantum physics and information science. The quantum world allows for completely new architectures and protocols. While originally formulated in continuous quantum variables, the field worked almost exclusively with discrete variables, such as single photons and photon pairs. The renaissance of continuous variables came with European research consortia such as ACQUIRE (Advanced Coherent Quantum Information Research) in the late 1990s, and QUICOV (Quantum Information with Continuous Variables) from 2000OCo2003. The encouraging research results of QUICOV and the new conference series CVQIP (Continuous Variable Quantum Information Processing) triggered the idea for this book. This book presents the state of the art of quantum information with continuous quantum variables. The individual chapters discuss results achieved in QUICOV and presented at the first five CVQIP conferences from 2002OCo2006. Many world-leading scientists working on continuous variables outside Europe also contribute to the book.

This book introduces the vast subject of supersymmetry along with many specific examples of engineering applications, for example: The design of quantum unitary gates using supersymmetric actions Bosonic and Fermionic noise in quantum systems using the Hudson-Parthasarathy quantum stochastic calculus Superstring theory applied to the quantum mechanics of neurons and supersymmetric quantum filtering theory which can, for example, be used to filter out the noise in a cavity resonator electromagnetic field produced by the presence electrons and positrons in a bath surrounding it Simplified versions of super-Yang-Mills theory with gauge and gaugino fields, both transforming under the adjoint representation of the gauge group and elementary super-gravity models have also been introduced All through the book, emphasis is laid upon exploiting the supersymmetry existing in the nature of Boson-Fermion exchange in designing engineering systems like quantum computers and analyzing the performance of systems in the presence of supersymmetric quantum noise.
This book covers the entire span of quantum mechanics whose developments have taken place during the early part of the twentieth century up till the present day. We start with the Rutherford-Bohr model of the atom followed by Schrodinger's wave mechanics with its application to the solution of calculating the energy spectrum of a particle in a box, the harmonic oscillator and finally the hydrogen atom. Heisenberg's matrix mechanics and its duality with Schrodinger's wave mechanics, quantum mechanics in the interaction picture. Dirac's relativistic theory of the electron exhibiting the spin of the electron as a relativistic effect when it interacts with an external electromagnetic field. Feyn...
This is a reference book for researchers working in the field of general relativity, quantum mechanics and quantum gravity. A major part of the book deals with the formulation of special relativistic mechanics, special relativistic fluid dynamics and its generalization to general relativity where the gravitational field is described by a metric tensor. Emphasis is laid on the fact that the general theory of relativity is of tensorial character under all dieomorphisms of space-time and hence its field equations, namely the Einstein field equations for gravitation, the Maxwell equations in a curved space-time geometry and the fluid dynamical equations in curved space time are all valid for all...
This volume stems from a workshop organised by the Corpus Linguistics and Language Variation in English Research Centre, known as CLAVIER, held at the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. It brings together a series of double-reviewed studies on the nature of the dissemination of specialist knowledge in English, its transformation from being a mere repository of information into a proactive source of understanding and empowerment. Through the chapters, the various principles, conceptualisations, constructs and pragmatic dynamics of knowledge dissemination are shown in a range of discourse genres. The studies reveal the multi-levels of knowledge, its varied typology and its ongoing co-construc...
This book is about several questions regarding how to describe the quantization of the current density in an antenna and about the nature of the quantum electromagnetic field produced by such a quantum current density. The second quantized current density can be built out of the Dirac field of electrons and positrons while the free electromagnetic or photon field is built out of solutions to the wave equation with coefficients being operators, namely the creation and annihilation operators of the photons. Note: T&F does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
