Proceedings of the First International Conference on Intelligent Human Computer Interaction

Dear Reader! Welcome to the proceedings of the First International Conference on Intelligent Human Computer Interaction (IHCI 2009) organized by the Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad. This is the first International Conference focused on Human Computer Interaction being organized in India. There is an increased interest in the human factors issues of computer use with a number of systems. The conference aims to provide an excellent opportunity for the dissemination of interesting new research, discussion about them and the generation of new ideas in these areas. We planned to organize the conference around the following five tracks: Signal and Vision Processing Language Pr...

We will be, sooner or later, not only handling personal computers but also mul- purpose cellular phones, complex personal digital assistants, devices that will be context-aware, and even wearable computers stitched to our clothes...we would like these personal systems to become transparent to the tasks they will be performing. In fact the best interface is an invisible one, one giving the user natural and fast access to the application he (or she) intends to be executed. The working group that organized this conference (the last of a long row!) tried to combine a powerful scientific program (with drastic refereeing) with an entertaining cultural program, so as to make your stay in Rome the m...

This sixth IMKB volume attempts to synthesize research done over a longer period of time in a reference book format. The work presents in survey articles the efforts to study foundations and applications of conceptual modelling in various environments. The motivation of these efforts is the fact that conceptual modelling and knowledge representation together with various kinds of inference systems are important subfields in the design and use of information systems. The modelling problem is essential in many disciplines, such as database design, knowledge engineering, logic, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, philosophy, linguistics, etc. A central and comprehensive bibliography is included.

The IFIP World Computer Congress (WCC) is one of the most important conferences in the area of computer science and a number of related Human and Social Science disciplines at the worldwide level and it has a federated structure, which takes into account the rapidly growing and expanding interests in this area. Human-Computer Interaction is now a mature and still dynamically evolving part of this area, which is represented in IFIP by the Technical Committee 13 on HCI. We are convinced that in this edition of WCC, which takes place for the first time in Italy, it will be interesting and useful to have a Symposium on Human- Computer Interaction in order to present and discuss a number of contr...

Gamification of telematics data to enhance operators’ behaviour for improvement of machine productivity in loading cycles

Construction industry is suffering from low productivity rate in various projects such as excavation. Although this issue is discussed in literature and several approaches are proposed to address it, productivity rate is still low in construction industry compared to other domains like manufacturing. A gamified platform in which different operators from different organizations can share their achievements, or can get scored and ranked in a leader-board will potentially address this issue.
