Un-representing the Great War
This collection of essays investigates the multifarious meanings of the Great War considered from a multifaceted perspective as the event that opens up the cultural history of the 20th century. After an introduction delineating ‘unrepresentability’, the core methodological issue of the book, the volume brings together many different strands of analysis and is divided into two main sections: the first provides a cultural and philosophical framework while the second explores specific linguistic and literary issues. Given the variety of perspectives and methodological approaches adopted by the contributors, the volume offers original and useful insights into WWI. The underlying rationale of the book, remaining faithful to the catastrophe of the war, without transforming it into a mere object of scientific investigation or ideological interpretation, helps to shed light on contemporary scenarios.

Maurice Scève Poet of Love
A study of Maurice Scève's sequence of love poems, the Délie - the first French canzoniere. There are two main themes: Scève's rendering of the intensity and complexity of the human experience of love, and secondly, his exploitation of the European tradition of love poetry. Dr Coleman tackles broad issues concerning appreciation of poetry, and more particularly, difficult poetry. Comparing individual poems by Horace, Scève and Mallarmé, she pinpoints the task of a serious reader: to experience sensitively and intellectually human emotions couched in artistic form. The book does not offer doctrines about Scève's love. instead, it looks at the contextual linguistic formulae which create love within the poems themselves: the allusiveness, the intellectual rigour, the tautness, the juxtaposition of words, combine with the voluptuousness and simplicity of the images, rhythm and sound, to make out of the poems a timeless an intensely personal experience.

Neuroscienze cognitive applicate al diritto
L’intersezione tra il diritto e le neuroscienze cognitive traccia un innovativo percorso epistemologico, che svela come tale virtuosa interazione possa riformulare i fondamenti e le prassi dei processi decisionali in ambito giuridico. Partendo dalle radici storiche di queste due aree del sapere, attraverso un viaggio che muove dalla psicologia cognitiva fino ai più recenti studi neuroscientifici, la disamina dei meccanismi grazie ai quali il cervello elabora le decisioni rivela come i pregiudizi cognitivi e le euristiche modellino le scelte legali, evidenziando l’opportunità di un approccio neuroscientificamente orientato, al fine di superare le inclinazioni inconsce che influenzano il pensiero giuridico.
