London, 1967. Frantz is a cynical and ruthless killer. He moves with great ease between one murder and another, waiting for the money that is due to a professional like him. With his victims doesnÕt establish any relationship. Never. Then, after finishing each and every ÔjobÕ, he takes away a piece of karma from the people he killed, like a sort of ÔsouvenirÕ a fountain pen, a jacket button, a tie-bar. His life is marked by fixed times and frightfully regular habits. The routine. One day his routine is upset. A mysterious girl suddenly appears in his life. She is very young and very attractive. She also has two disturbing eyes, a perpetually sad expression and a rather obscure past. Between the killer and the girl a strange feeling is born, an attraction much more physical than sentimental, an overwhelming, sexually driven passion. From that moment on, Frantz's life takes an unexpected turn, and his habits begin to change dramatically. But a terrible secret is hidden behind the sad eyes of the girl...
Chapters by distinguished investigators in clinical psychology, psychiatry, and child development, many of whose work led to the new developmental model of psychopathology, provide a unique review of current research on vulnerability and resistance to disorder.
""...il viaggio è talvolta sinonimo di percorso. Un lungo apologo sulla vita e sulla crescita interiore, sull'amore, sul sesso, sulla religione, sul cambiamento e sul rapporto interpersonale tra un individuo e l'intera collettività umana.
John Mingers' new volume, Self-Producing Systems: Implications and Ap plications of Autopoiesis, is a much-needed reference on autopoiesis, a subject penetrating many disciplines today. I can genuinely say that I enjoyed reading the book as it took me stage by stage through a clear and easy-to-grasp understanding of the concepts and ideas of auto poiesis and then, as the book's title suggests, on through their applica tions. I found the summary in Chapter 12 particularly useful, helping to crystalize the main points of each chapter. The book conveyed enthusi asm for the subject and stimulated my interest in it. At times the book is demanding, but only because of the breadth of the subject ma...
A decade ago, Advances in Clinical Child Psychology was conceived to provide approximately annual updates on the forward edge of research and practice in this rapidly growing field. A look back at the 56 chapters published in previous volumes provides a broad overview of the direc tion of advancement in clinical child psychology, at least as viewed by one collection of editors, consulting editors, and authors. The trends are clear: There have been decreasing numbers of advances in modes and methods of therapy, an increasing emphasis on the family, a renewed interest in experimental psychopathology (studies of classification, etiol ogy, and prognosis), a growing rapprochement between biologic...
The German version of this work has a long tradition, and this fourth edition is the first to see an English version. Its main feature is the international approach regarding both authors and topics. The four internationally renowned editors were able to acquire the leading specialists for each field as contributors to the book. No less than 120 authors, half of them from non-German speaking countries, ensure an extremely high standard and that cross-cultural aspects are considered. Another major feature is that the book presents the evidence such that it may be examined from at least four different entry points -- via basic disciplines of psychiatric knowledge about groups defined by demographic criteria. Detailed linkages to other chapters allow the inclusion of neighbouring disciplines, such as the neurosciences and molecular biology. Contemporary Psychiatry is also unique in including chapters on psychiatric disorders caused by catastrophes, disasters etc. -- aspects totally neglected by normal textbooks. While this book gives an overall view of the state of the art of psychiatric knowledge, it even goes so far as to suggest future perspectives.
The Anthropology of Food and Body explores the way that making, eating, and thinking about food reveal culturally determined gender-power relations in diverse societies. This book brings feminist and anthropological theories to bear on these provocative issues and will interest anyone investigating the relationship between food, the body, and cultural notions of gender.
