La città di Piacenza è una delle sedi urbane più importanti per l’alto Medioevo dell’Italia settentrionale. Dopo una florida stagione di studi tra gli anni Ottanta e l’inizio degli anni Novanta, è stata oggetto di riflessioni e analisi soprattutto legate al cospicuo corpus documentario, che con il dato archeologico hanno faticato spesso a trovare un concreto punto di incontro. Questa ricerca parte dalla necessità di mettere in comunicazione i diversi tipi di fonti e tentare di proporre una lettura articolata sulla città, nelle trasformazioni avvenute tra la tarda Antichità e l’alto Medioevo.
