Edward Hopper in Vermont
Edward and Jo Hopper first discovered Vermont in 1927, making day trips from the Whitney Studio Club's summer retreat for New York artists in Charlestown, New Hampshire. In 1935 and 1936 the Hoppers again traveled to Vermont, this time from their summer home in Cape Cod, in Edward's continuing search for new places to paint. During these quests they identified the White River and what Edward considered to be Vermont's "finest" river valley, and they returned there for longer visits in 1937 and 1938, boarding at Robert and Irene Slater's Wagon Wheels farm in South Royalton. Early Netherlandish Painting
The volume contains entries for paintings in the National gallery that were produced in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries by artists from the Netherlands. The entries are arranged alphabetically by artist; a short biography and bibliography for each artist is followed by individual entries on the paintings, each in order of acquisition. The authors address traditional questions of attributes and iconography; in addition, they examine the social, economic, and religious context in which the individual work of art functioned. The volume is also probable the first museum catalogue to include the results of examination by infrared reflectography and dendrochronological analysis.

These lists are usually generated in neat doses of one hundred titles. Here then (at least in the opinions of Messrs. The History of Woodbury and Company
This volume presents for the first time an edited version of Harold D. Woodbury's «Notes on the History of Woodbury & Company, Inc.» This history offers a fascinating glimpse into the workings of a family firm that emerged as the largest commercial engraver in central New England in the 1890s. The company specialized in Bird's-Eye-Views of factories and industrial buildings, large numbers of which graced the walls of boardrooms and executive suites in the Northeast and throughout North America. A notable success for the company, in addition to its excellence in engraved letterheads, was its series of First Day Covers, pictorial impressions of commemorative stamps.
