Research Ethics in the Digital Age
The book discusses the multiple issues of a digital research ethic in its interdisciplinary diversity. Digitization and mediatization alter social behavior and cultural traditions, thereby generating new objects of study and new research questions for the social sciences and humanities. Furthermore, mediatization and digitization increase the data volume and accessibility of (quantitative) research and proliferate methodological opportunities for scientific analyses. Hence, they profoundly affect research practices in multiple ways. While consequences concerning the subjects, objects, and addressees of research in the social sciences and humanities have rarely been reflected upon, this reflection lies at the center of the book.

Mit der politischen Bedeutsamkeit der Massenmedien wächst die Kritik an der Berichterstattung. In der Kommunikationswissenschaft äußert sich dies im Entstehen einer Qualitätsforschung, wobei die empirische Messung der Informationsqualität von Nachrichten im Mittelpunkt steht. Die Arbeit verdichtet zunächst medienrechtliche und journalistisch-professionelle Normen zu einem Katalog von Qualitätskriterien: Menge, Relevanz, Objektivität, Aktualität und Verständlichkeit von Information sind Gegenstand vieler empirischer Nachrichtenstudien, deren Methodenarsenal hier systematisiert, kritisiert und ergänzt wird. Es fließen kognitionspsychologische, textlinguistische und wissenschaftstheoretische Überlegungen ein. Ein neues, von Früh entwickeltes Verfahren wird adaptiert: die computergestützte Semantische Struktur- und Inhaltsanalyse (SSI). Die erarbeiteten Qualitätsindikatoren dienen einer quantitativen und qualitativen Analyse der universellen deutschen Agenturdienste. Deren Qualität ist von großem Interesse, denn Agenturen determinieren sehr stark die Nachrichteninhalte der Massenmedien.

Recent Advances in Chiral Separations
This volume represents the proceedings of the second international meeting on chiral separations held at the University of Surrey between the 12th and 15th of September 1989. Like the preceding meeting, it was jointly organised by the Chromatographic Society and the Robens Institute of the University of Surrey in response to the continued interest in this area of separation science. Of particular interest to the organisers was the very clear change in the nature of the delegates attending this second symposium as compared with the first. At the previous meeting the majority of the delegates were composed of chromatographers with problems in the area of chiral separations who were keen to learn as much as possible about these techniques from the handful of recognised experts in this area. In this second symposium the divide between expert and novice was much less apparent, with the latter providing many interesting and useful contributions to the scientific programme in termt; of both oral and poster presentations.
Macrocyclic Receptors for Environmental and Biosensing Applications
The book is designed to highlight the utility of supramolecular systems in diverse areas such as sensing of ionic and molecular analytes, aggregation, artificial molecular machines, biology, and medicine. The synthetic chemistry of a diverse set of supramolecules encompassing various supramolecular interactions involved in driving macrocyclic architectures is discussed. Attempts have been made to cover unique features of macrocycles viz. control over shape, size, and valency along with supramolecular interactions, which direct complex supramolecular systems. The book also provides a discussion on the similarity between macrocyclic host-guest systems and biomolecules, which lay the foundation of building modern artificial molecular motors and switches like protein machines for application in diverse areas. New Techniques for Proving Plagiarism
This book demonstrates that the principles of textual criticism—borrowed from the fields of classics and medieval studies—have a valuable application for plagiarism investigations. Plagiarists share key features with medieval scribes who worked in scriptoriums and produced copies of manuscripts. Both kinds of copyists—scribes and plagiarists—engage in similar processes, and they commit distinctive copying errors. When committed by plagiarists, these copying errors have probative value for making determinations that a text is copied, and hence, unoriginal. To show the efficacy of the newly proposed techniques for proving plagiarism, case studies are drawn from philosophy, theology, and canon law.
