Histopathology of Nodal and Extranodal Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphomas

During the 10 years since the last edition of this volume our knowledge on malignant lymphomas, especially on extranodal lymphomas, has increased. This volume is an expanded and completely revised edition, now based on the WHO classification. The parallels to the updated Kiel classification and the REAL classification are indicated. The information is organized in organ-specific chapters, comprising the well-known nodal lymphoma entities as well as all known extranodal lymphomas and the different organ-specific clinico-pathological entities: lymphomas of the spleen, the gastrointestinal tract, the skin, etc. In addition to the morphology, the major immunohistochemical, molecular genetic, and clinical data are included in each chapter.

An Illustrated Guide to Skin Lymphoma

Skin lymphomas are relatively rare. They may arise in the skin itself and as a by-product of HIV infection, or may arise elsewhere as a result of Hodgkin's disease, B cell lymphomas or leukaemia. Whatever the cause, they can easily be overlooked as psoriasis or dermatitis. Diagnosis of skin lymphoma is difficult and making the wrong diagnosis can prove fatal. Consequently, those in training in dermatology and pathology need to have a good understanding of the clinical presentations and the pathological correlates of this challenging disease. An Illustrated Guide to Skin Lymphoma is a beautiful full-colour illustrated text and atlas that combines pathology with clinical features and treatment. This second edition includes the latest classification systems for cutaneous lymphomas as well as brand new chapters and an expanded section on treatment.

This book summarizes current knowledge of the biology and molecular pathogenesis of aggressive lymphomas and reviews the state of the art in diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. The aim is both to provide the reader with a sound understanding of the very significant progress that has been achieved in the understanding and management of these malignancies over recent years and to facilitate appropriate choice of the therapeutic strategy in individual cases. The assessment of different prognostic parameters are clearly presented in order to permits effective risk stratification that impacts on treatment choice. Recent insights into lymphomagenesis are exemplified and may assist in identifying emerging therapeutic targets. The comprehensive and up-to-date nature of the book will make it an ideal reference for all physicians and researchers interested in lymphoma, including clinicians from various medical specialties, biologists, pathologists, radiologists and nuclear medicine specialist, as well as students.

The Management of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphomas in Europe

The European School of Oncology came into existence to respond to a need for informa tion, education and training in the field of the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. There are two main reasons why such an initiative was considered necessary. Firstly, the teaching of oncology requires a rigorously multidisciplinary approach which is difficult for the Univer sities to put into practice since their system is mainly disciplinary orientated. Secondly, the rate of technological development that impinges on the diagnosis of cancer has been so rapid that it is not an easy task for medical faculties to adapt their curricula flexibly. With its residential courses for organ pathologies and its semin...

Lymphomas form a heterogeneous group of diseases as regards aggressiveness, need of care and prognosis. In some disease types the treatment should be started without delay, whereas others may not need care at all.Adults with generalized lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly or an enlarged lymph node (> 2 cm) that does not decrease in size during a follow-up of one month should be referred for biopsy to a specialist centre with good pathology services. If a patient has prolonged symptoms after treatment of lymphoma, thorough investigations are indicated to rule out recurrence. Consider the possibility of late adverse effects of treatment (early menopause, hypothyroidism, cardiac disease, certain infections and secondary malignancies).
