Fazlur Rahman was one of the most influential Muslim thinkers of the 20th Century. His encyclopedic understanding of both the Islamic and Western traditions rendered him as most suited for the task of tajdid ul-din (intellectual and academic revivification, reformism and modernism). As a pragmatist he believed that 'social change' could not be translated into reality without an active, positive and vital engagement with the present world which stood as the élan of Islamic morality and ethics. The present work attempts to critically analyze and deconstruct Fazlur Rahman's thought in order to ascertain the key principles that govern the oeuvre of his work. Further, the author has provided a '...

This thesis focuses on producing hybrid freeform surfaces using an advanced diamond-turning process, understanding the generation of surface accuracies (form errors) and how the choice of cutting strategies affects these, as well as simplifying the complications of generating cutting paths for such freeform surfaces. The breakthroughs behind this thesis are the development of novel, multiple-axis, diamond turning techniques to overcome the limitations of conventional diamond turning processes, an analytical model to optimize the generation of ultraprecise freeform surfaces, and an add-on tool path processor for CAD/CAM software solutions. It appeals to researchers and scholars with a strong machining background who are interested in the field of manufacturing ultraprecise freeform surfaces or in the field of optimizing ultraprecision machining processes.

All the Things We Never Said

Runner-up YA in the inaugural Diverse Book Awards 2020. 16-year-old Mehreen Miah's anxiety and depression, or 'Chaos', as she calls it, has taken over her life, to the point where she can't bear it any more. So she joins MementoMori, a website that matches people with partners and allocates them a date and method of death, 'the pact'. Mehreen is paired with Cara Saunders and Olivia Castleton, two strangers dealing with their own serious issues. As they secretly meet over the coming days, Mehreen develops a strong bond with Cara and Olivia, the only people who seem to understand what she's going through. But ironically, the thing that brought them together to commit suicide has also created a mutually supportive friendship that makes them realise that, with the right help, life is worth living. It's not long before all three want out of the pact. But in a terrifying twist of fate, the website won't let them stop, and an increasingly sinister game begins, with MementoMori playing the girls off against each other. A pact is a pact, after all. In this powerful debut written in three points of view, Yasmin Rahman has created a moving, poignant novel celebrating life.

Critical Aspects of EPA's IRIS Assessment of Inorganic Arsenic

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) program develops toxicologic assessments of environmental contaminants. IRIS assessments provide hazard identification and dose-response assessment information. The information is then used in conjunction with exposure information to characterize risks to public health and may be used in risk-based decisionmaking, in regulatory actions, and for other risk-management purposes. Since the middle 1990s, EPA has been in the process of updating the IRIS assessment of inorganic arsenic. In response to a congressional mandate for an independent review of the IRIS assessment of inorganic arsenic, EPA requested that the National Research Council convene a committee to conduct a two-phase study. Critical Aspects of EPA's IRIS Assessment of Inorganic Arsenic is the report of the first phase of that study. This report evaluates critical scientific issues in assessing cancer and noncancer effects of oral exposure to inorganic arsenic and offers recommendations on how the issues could be addressed in EPA's IRIS assessment.

Bangladesh II: Climate Change Impacts, Mitigation and Adaptation in Developing Countries

This volume aims to develop a framework for disaster and climate risk resilient livelihood system in Bangladesh using a policy oriented approach. It highlights the possible impacts of climate change on groundwater based irrigation in the country. Climate change is one of biggest challenges to society. It can lead to serious impacts on production, life and environment on a global scale. Higher temperatures and sea level rise will cause flooding and water salinity problems which will bring about negative effects on agriculture and high risks to industry and socio-economic systems in the future. Climate change will lead to many changes in global development and security especially energy, water...

My poetry will take you on a journey through my life, the observations I have made, the wonderful times I have had and also the terrible experiences I have faced in my life. My poetry expresses real emotions that people from all walks of life can relate to. The poems are honest, truthful and poignant. My poems will take the reader on a journey, which will enrich and enlighten the reader's mind. Some poems reflect 'tragedy' and others 'happiness'. 'Music' explores the joy that a person can feel when listening to a memorable song or a piece of music. The style, content and length of the poems vary considerably, to reflect the author's quirky, inconsistent thought patterns. Some are short, some are long, some lines are succinct, while others are more complex, depending on the poet's mood at the time of composing.

The generalized function is one of the important branches of mathematics which has enormous applications in practical fields. In particular its applications to the theory of distribution and signal processing are very much essential. In this computer age, information science plays a very important role and the Fourier transform is extremely significant in deciphering obscured information to be made understandable. The book contains six chapters and three appendices. Chapter 1 deals with the preliminary remarks of Fourier series from general point of view. Chapter 2 is concerned with the generalized functions and their Fourier transforms. Chapter 3 contains the Fourier transforms of particular generalized functions. Chapter 4 deals with the asymptotic estimation of Fourier transforms. Chapter 5 is devoted to the study of Fourier series as a series of generalized functions. Chapter 6 deals with the fast Fourier transforms.Appendix A contains the extended list of Fourier transform pairs.Appendix B illustrates the properties of impulse function.Appendix C contains an extended list of biographical references
