In 2015 The Maarten Van Severen Foundation and the Department of Design of KASK / School of Arts Ghent decided to establish a chair with the aim of conveying the relevance and significance of Maarten Van Severens work for todays designers. Every year a leading designer, whose work has an affinity with the work of Maarten Van Severen, will give a lecture and a masterclass. He or she will reflect on the common ground between their work and that of Maarten van Severen and on the qualities of his work in light of the current design culture. The first edition was in the hands of Erwan Bouroullec. The second edition was done by Alfredo Häberli. In February / March 2018, Dutch designer Aldo Bakker gave a lecture and a masterclass with 14 students from 6 different schools. The result is a fascinating collection of cutlery, which we proudly present as the third MVSC Cahier the 6th of March at Miry Concert hall in Ghent. It contains a transcription of Aldo Bakker's lecture, an interview with Bakker and a visual overview of the masterclass that documents the students progress.

Why should one thing have more shine, passion and 'mystical allure' than another? A Wild Thing attempts to identify and describe these often intangible qualities. There seems to be an inner light that shines from certain things. Unlike the blinding spotlight of media and marketing, this light is gentle and clear and reflects the methodology and intention of the maker. Ancient craftsmen designed from a place of unity with matter and the cosmos, putting themselves at the service of the making process and thereby creat...
'One also tastes with the eyes'. This is the creed of the twin brothers Stefan and Kristof Boxy. In addition to the taste, the presentation is an essential component of a successful meal. What seems to be simple creations turn out to give a superb result, simple snacks are lifted up to a surprisingly high level by the alluring composition on the plate. At Dwell, we're staging a minor revolution. We think that it's possible to live in a house or apartment by a bold modern architect, to own furniture and products that are exceptionally well designed, and still be a regular human being. We think that good design is an integral part of real life. And that real life has been conspicuous by its absence in most design and architecture magazines.
