Summary: Radiationless transfer of excitation energy is at the hear of many processes in quantum physics, chemistry and nanotechnology. Currently, the standard picture of an incoherent Förster resonant excitation transfer is being challenged by the experimental findings of a long-lived quantum mechanical coherence in biomolecular light harvesting complexes. The role of this in molecular aggregates is addressed in the first part of this volume. Utilizing some of the underlying principles to optimize nano scale devices, the second part addresses systems of colloid quantum dots and polymer based organic solar cells.
Topological insulator is one of the hottest research topics in solid state physics. This is the first book to describe the vibrational spectroscopies and electrical transport of topological insulator Bi2Se3, one of the most exciting areas of research in condensed matter physics. In particular, attempts have been made to summarize and develop the various theories and new experimental techniques developed over years from the studies of Raman scattering, infrared spectroscopy and electrical transport of topological insulator Bi2Se3. Ultrashort laser pulses in the microjoule regime are of prime importance for manyapplications. Previous record pulse energiesobtained directly from an oscillator in ambient atmosphere were below 2 Î1⁄4J. This thesis describes a newly developed thin-disk laser oscillator with an increasedround-trip gain by employing a self-imaging active multipass geometry. The generationof high energy subpicosecond pulses with a pulse energy of up to 25.9 Î1⁄4J at apulse duration of 928 fs, while operated in ambient atmosphere, could be demonstrated.Stable single-pulse operation has been obtained with an average outputpower in excess of 76W at a repetition rate of 2.93MHz. Self starting passive modelockingwas accomplished using a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM)with a modulation depth of 3.5%. The laser was operated at output-coupling rates ofup to 78%.
