Esta obra tem origem em projetos de pesquisa e extensão do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio Grande do Grande do Sul (IFRS), Campus Sertão. Por inovação social compreende-se o desenvolvimento de soluções que, envolvendo diversos atores, geram impactos positivos na resolução de problemas sociais. Nas últimas décadas, vimos a persistência de fenômenos como a pobreza, a fome, a dificuldade de acesso à saúde e de qualidade na educação, assim como a emergência de debates globais em torno das mudanças climáticas e dos desafios para uma maior aceitação e promoção de diversidade, equidade e inclusão. Em comum, estes desafios se convertem em problemas sociais presentes em diferentes níveis em todos os países, tendo consequências globais e locais.
