At the 50th Anniversary Meeting of the Institute of Food Technologists the ten most significant innovations in food science developed during the past 50 years were named (Food Technology, September 1989). Among the "Top 10" innovations, controlled atmosphere packaging (CAP) for fruits and vegetables was listed 5th in order of importance. Of course, CAP is a forerunner of MAP (modified atmosphere packaging) in which a variety of food products are packaged under selective mixtures of atmospheric gases, but without the on-going maintenance (control) of the gas mixture. Development of packaging systems and films that are selectively permeable to specific gases has been the key element in the com...

This volume constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 1995 Asian Computing Science Conference, ACSC 95, held in Pathumthani, Thailand in December 1995. The 29 fully revised papers presented were selected from a total of 102 submissions; clearly the majority of the participating researchers come from South-East Asian countries, but there is also a strong international component. The volume reflects research activities, particularly by Asian computer science researchers, in different areas. Special attention is paid to algorithms, knowledge representation, programming and specification languages, verification, concurrency, networking and distributed systems, and databases.
This volume contains selected expository lectures delivered at the 2018 Maurice Auslander Distinguished Lectures and International Conference, held April 25–30, 2018, at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Woods Hole, MA. Reflecting recent developments in modern representation theory of algebras, the selected topics include an introduction to a new class of quiver algebras on surfaces, called “geodesic ghor algebras”, a detailed presentation of Feynman categories from a representation-theoretic viewpoint, connections between representations of quivers and the structure theory of Coxeter groups, powerful new applications of approximable triangulated categories, new results on the heart of a t t-structure, and an introduction to methods of constructive category theory.
The aim of this book is to explain modern homotopy theory in a manner accessible to graduate students yet structured so that experts can skip over numerous linear developments to quickly reach the topics of their interest. Homotopy theory arises from choosing a class of maps, called weak equivalences, and then passing to the homotopy category by localizing with respect to the weak equivalences, i.e., by creating a new category in which the weak equivalences are isomorphisms. Quillen defined a model category to be a category together with a class of weak equivalences and additional structure useful for describing the homotopy category in terms of the original category. This allows you to make...
Originally released in 2017, the book "Sensory Architecture – The Art of Designing for All Senses" by Juliana Duarte Neves receives a second edition in 2024, revised and expanded. Over the past six years, there have been numerous advancements in the study of sensory architecture and many initiatives focused on emotionally engaging the visitor, using the principles of sensory architecture, which has become a gateway to new fields of research. This second edition brings a refinement of the design methodology proposed in the original book and current examples that make its understanding and applicability clearer. And the new chapter "Unfolding of Sensory Architecture" presents two examples of...
This book constitutes the proceedings of the Third International Conference on Networked Digital Technologies, held in Macau, China, in July 2011. The 41 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 127 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on information security, networks, information management, multimedia, human computer interaction and simulation, e-learning and e-government, Web services/semantics, user centric information system/intelligent computing, and data mining.
This book highlights recent research on intelligent systems and nature-inspired computing. It presents 132 selected papers from the 21st International Conference on Intelligent Systems Design and Applications (ISDA 2021), which was held online. The ISDA is a premier conference in the field of computational intelligence, and the latest installment brought together researchers, engineers and practitioners whose work involves intelligent systems and their applications in industry. Including contributions by authors from 34 countries, the book offers a valuable reference guide for all researchers, students and practitioners in the fields of Computer Science and Engineering.
