This book describes the most commonly used techniques in Oral Rehabilitation. It has been designed in a step-by-step manner, using study models to standardize how procedures should be performed in an ideal scenario. In this textbook, every chapter contains the description of a technique, its aim and the rationale for each step, which provides students with the tools to grasp the logical reasoning behind each procedure. The volume is divided into three parts: (1) Surgery; (2) Tooth-supported prosthodontics and (3) Implant-supported prosthodontics. This textbook is rich in photographic images and diagrams, and is highly didactic and will facilitate the route to achieving competence in the techniques described here. It was created for both dental students and qualified dentists, as one may learn thoroughly from it, as well as use it as a quick reference.
Leprosy is one of the oldest recorded debilitating diseases affecting mankind, the immunopathology of which is characterized by fluctuating granulomatous inflammation that targets mainly skin and peripheral nerve. The disease is caused by infection with Mycobacterium leprae, a slow growing obligatory intracellular and non-cultivatable organism. The disease is manifested with diverse pathology due to varied immune (both innate and adaptive) responses of the hosts as a result of cognate interaction with the organism. Of note, leprosy can be regarded as a unique model to elucidate the complexity of host immunity at both skin and systemic levels.
Oral cancer is the sixth most common malignancy with almost 500000 new cases reported worldwide annually. The diagnosis of oral cancer at an early stage has a good prognosis as the survival rate is high (around 80%). However, the majority of oral cancer cases are diagnosed at a later stage with a considerably poor 5-year survival rate of 50% according to World Health Organization statistics. Thus, an effective management strategy for oral cancer will depend on its early identification and intervention which would pave the way for superior prognosis. Despite the obvious advantage of earlier diagnosis of oral cancer, no approach has yet proven to be a reliably successful in diagnosis of oral c...
"In this work, Desirée Poets posits that contemporary Brazil is a settler colony. Based on ethnographic research and her experiences growing up in Brazil, the book tells the stories of communities in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Belo Horizonte-two quilombos, two Indigenous movements, and a favela-to unravel the continuities and discontinuities of Brazil's settler colonial structure. As Poets argues, settler colonialism is renewed through expectations of Indigenous and quilombola authenticity as well as through militarization, incarceration, genocide, and marginalization that continuously attempt to dispossess and eliminate Black and Indigenous peoples from the political landscape, includ...
Brazil, a country that has always received immigrants, only rarely saw its own citizens move abroad. Beginning in the late 1980s, however, thousands of Brazilians left for the United States, Japan, Portugal, Italy, and other nations, propelled by a series of intense economic crises. By 2009 an estimated three million Brazilians were living abroad—about 40 percent of them in the United States. Goodbye, Brazil is the first book to provide a global perspective on Brazilian emigration. Drawing and synthesizing data from a host of sociological and anthropological studies, preeminent Brazilian immigration scholar Maxine L. Margolis surveys and analyzes this greatly expanded Brazilian diaspora, a...
