Family Agriculture
Originally published in 1994, this book examines the importance of family agricultural systems in both the developed and the developing worlds. Throughout the world, and throughout history, the family unit has been at the heart of agricultural systems. Working together, families not only furnish their own needs, but form the basis for society itself: they provide the labour, population, resources and the market to maintain much of the world’s economic and social development. But the global race for financial prosperity, with its large-scale intensive farming techniques, is increasingly undermining the family’s role in food production and social cohesion. This book explores both traditional and modern farming techniques and looks at their different consequences for national agricultural resources and for rural societies. Finally, it suggests ways in which technology can be harnessed to meet the needs of the family rather than undermine it, in order to achieve a viable and sustainable agriculture for the future.

Exploring Services Science
This book contains the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Exploring Service Science (IESS), held in Porto, Portugal, in February 2015. Service science constitutes an interdisciplinary approach to systematic innovation in service systems, integrating managerial, social, legal, and engineering aspects to address the theoretical and practical challenges of the service industry and its economy. The 27 full papers accepted for IESS were selected from 69 submissions. The papers consider the topics service innovation, service exploration, service design, IT-based service engineering, and service sustainability.

This book, the fourth of the series "Fontes para la história de Portugal e do Brazil" ("Sources for the History of Portugal and Brazil"), contains a list of names of Portuguese Conversos and Jews registered by the Portuguese Inquisition in the "Livro dos Culpados" ("The Book of the Accused"). These people had been denounced to the Inquisition and had undergone trials, and then emigrated to other countries, mainly the Netherlands and Brazil. The Inquisition was interested in "following their steps" in those countries. The list covers the 17th-18th centuries and is alphabetically arranged. In addition to the names of the accused, also contains the names of the accusers who provided evidence through their testimonies. In some entries the sentence is mentioned as well.
