The book encompasses the nanoscale semiconductor field by amalgamating a broad multidisciplinary arena including applications for energy conservation, materials performance enhancement, electronic circuitry, video displays, lighting, photovoltaics, quantum computing, memory, chemo- and biosensors, pharmaceuticals and medical diagnostics inter alia.
Contemporary social transformations, characterised by multi-dimensional globalisation and technological change, have lent new impetus to the emergence of internationally oriented and interdisciplinary childhood and youth studies. Analysis of sharpened polarisations of chances and risks within and between generations in specific life circumstances meets up with the re-conceptualisation of childhood and youth as social constructions within the life-course. As such, insulated national discourses are no longer an adequate framework to address such issues: economic and cultural globalisation processes exert dual and reciprocal influences, restructuring societies and identities from within and wit...
The detection and measurement of the dynamic interactions of proteins within the living cell are critical to our understanding of cell physiology and pathophysiology. With FRET microscopy and spectroscopy techniques, basic and clinical scientists can make such measurements at very high spatial and temporal resolution. But sources of background information about these tools are very limited, so this book fills an important gap. It covers both the basic concepts and theory behind the various FRET microscopy and spectroscopy techniques, and the practical aspects of using the techniques and analyzing the results. The critical tricks for obtaining a good FRET image and precisely quantitating the ...

We’re pleased to welcome you to the Department of Political Science at the University of Bari “Aldo Moro” for the 7th Migration Conference. The conference is the largest scholarly gathering on migration with a global scope. Human mobility, economics, work, employment, integration, insecurity, diversity and minorities, as well as spatial patterns, culture, arts and legal and political aspects appear to be key areas in the current migration debates and research. Throughout the program of the Migration Conference you will find various key thematic areas covered in 598 presentations by 767 contributors coming from all around the world, from Australia to Canada, China to Colombia, Brazil to...
· Measuring membrane protein distributions using single-molecule localisation microscopy (SMLM) · Measuring membrane protein dynamics and diffusion using fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) · Mapping membrane lipid backing using environmentally sensitive fluorescence probes · Mapping membrane thickness and rigidity using atomic force microscopy · Mapping membrane proteins and the cytoskeleton using electron microscopy
This is the detailed session programme of the TMC2021 (www.migrationconference.net) hosted by Ming Ai (London) Institute and International British Business School, UK. We’re pleased to welcome you to the 9th Migration Conference. The Migration Conference series attracted a few thousand colleagues over the last 10 years and surely become one of the largest continuous events on migration and the largest scholarly gathering with a global scope. The conference covers all areas of social sciences, humanities, economics, business and management. More popular areas so far included work, employment, integration, refugees and asylum, migration policy and law, spatial patterns, culture, arts and legal and political aspects which are key areas in the current migration debates and research. Throughout the program of the Migration Conference you will find various key thematic areas covered in over 300 presentations by about 500 contributors coming from all around the world, from Australia to Canada, China to Ecuador, Brazil to Japan, and South Africa to Norway. We are proud to bring together experts from universities, independent research organisations, governments, NGOs and the media.
Driven in part by the development of genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics as new disciplines, there has been a tremendous resurgence of interest in physical methods to investigate macromolecular structure and function in the context of living cells. This volume in Methods in Cell Biology is devoted to biophysical techniques in vivo and their applications to cellular biology. Biophysical Tools for Biologists covers methods-oriented chapters on fundamental as well as cutting-edge techniques in molecular and cellular biophysics. This book is directed toward the broad audience of cell biologists, biophysicists, pharmacologists, and molecular biologists who employ classical and modern biophysical technologies or wish to expand their expertise to include such approaches. It will also interest the biomedical and biotechnology communities for biophysical characterization of drug formulations prior to FDA approval. - Describes techniques in the context of important biological problems - Delineates critical steps and potential pitfalls for each method
In a warm, personal memoir about life at 10 Downing Street, Sarah Brown shares her experiences as the wife of the British Prime Minister Today, Gordon's words are simple and heartfelt. He promises, as his own school motto said, "to do his utmost." I know that the same will go for me, too. We turn to the door, greeting the policeman on duty. It is time to play our part in contributing to what happens next in government and a new life behind the black door. Intimate, reflective, surprising, and funny, this book takes readers backstage to reveal what it's like to be an ordinary woman, wife, and mother in extraordinary circumstances. Sarah gave up a successful business career to serve her countr...
