Journey to Albania
Over the last ten years, Albania has undergone rapid development, becoming a well-recognised tourist destination within the Mediterranean region. Tourism represents one of the most significant opportunities for the country and – at the same time – a challenge for a developing nation and emerging economy – especially if we take into account an isolationist period of more than forty years during the social-communist dictatorship. This book aims to provide a base for discussion about the impact of tourism on the Albanian territory – firstly from a historical point of view, and secondly to observe a specific case study and analyse its impact. This book is a journey to Albania, looking at architecture, explorations, and landscapes from the traveller's perspective. Quality of Life in Urban Landscapes
This volume introduces an innovative tool for the development of sustainable cities and the promotion of the quality of life of city inhabitants. It presents a decision-support system to orient public administrations in identifying development scenarios for sustainable urban and territorial transformations. The authors have split the volume into five parts, which respectively describe the theoretical basis of the book, the policies in question and indicators that influence them, the decision-support system that connects indicators to policies, the case study of Ancona, Italy, and potential future directions for this work. A selection of architecture, landscape and urbanism works from aldayjover | architecture and landscape, an office based in Barcelona, Spain and Virginia in the United States. A collection of projects -- designed from their local and territorial DNA -- that respond in new ways to the global socio-ecological crisis in which we have been in engaged with since the beginning of the 21st century. Featured works include public spaces, architecture and urban studies that incorporate natural dynamics and that also emphasize -- recovering in some cases -- legal access among all citizens and equal access to the city and its opportunities. The works presented are particularly renowned given their leadership role in a new approach to the relationship between cities and rivers, in which natural dynamics become part of the public space, eliminating the effect of “catastrophe”.
