Betty Weaver Fridley always wanted to be a school teacher, she played school instead of house as a child. Her mother encouraged her toward that end. When the local school, was replacing some of its old desks, Dimmis, her mother, hauled three of the old desks home in her child's little wagon. They lived in the country, only a quarter of a mile from Jackson Township Schools. Betty then had her own schoolroom in the old "smoke house" on the farm. In 1945 Betty graduated from Bowling Green State University, where she had been elected treasurer of the Senior Class, and was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority, where she was also treasurer her senior year.
