With sensitivity, Erika Helgen shows that the rise of religious pluralism was fraught with conflict and violence, as Catholic bishops, priests, and friars organized intense campaigns against Protestantism. Fidélis Dalcin Barbosa exerceu o ministério sacerdotal durante mais de 30 anos, como capuchinho. Foi pároco de três paroquias, vigário paroquial de outras tantas, capelão de seis colégios e hospitais, professor em três Seminários. Por falta de vocação, a conselho do confessor, o santo Frei Ambrósio Tondello, com apoio do Cardeal Arcebispo D. Aloísio Lorcheider, o pai, irmãos, parentes, confrades e amigos, pediu e obteve da Santa Sé dispensa dos votos religiosos e consorciou-se com Carmelina Camatti.
