This book presents a collection of contributions in the field of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). The themes addressed are multidisciplinary in nature, and closely connected in their ultimate aim to identify features from dynamic realistic signal exchanges and invariant machine representations that can be exploited to improve the quality of life of their end users. Mathematical tools like ANNs are currently exploited in many scientific domains because of their solid theoretical background and effectiveness in providing solutions to many demanding tasks such as appropriately processing (both for extracting features and recognizing) mono- and bi-dimensional dynamic signals, solving strong no...
A cursory glance at the table of contents of EANN 2009 reveals the am- ing range of neural network and related applications. A random but revealing sample includes: reducing urban concentration, entropy topography in epil- tic electroencephalography, phytoplanktonic species recognition, revealing the structure of childhood abdominal pain data, robot control, discriminating angry and happy facial expressions, ?ood forecasting, and assessing credit worthiness. The diverse nature of applications demonstrates the vitality of neural comp- ing and related soft computing approaches, and their relevance to many key contemporary technological challenges. It also illustrates the value of EANN in bring...
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed postproceedings of the 14th Italian Workshop on Neural Networks, WIRN VIETRI 2003, held in Vietri sul Mare, Italy in June 2003. The 41 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and improved during two rounds of selection and refereeing. The papers are organized in topical sections on models for neural computation; architectures and algorithms; image and signal processing; applications; bioinformatics and statistics; and formats of knowledge: words, images, and narratives.
Although the climate of the Earth is continually changing from the very beginning, anthropogenic effects, the pollution of the air by combustion and industrial activities make it change so quickly that the adaptation is very difficult for all living organisms. Researcher's role is to make this adaptation easier, to prepare humankind to the new circumstances and challenges, to trace and predict the effects and, if possible, even decrease the harmfulness of these changes. In this book we provide an interdisciplinary collection of new studies and findings on the score of air pollution.
From its early beginnings in the fifties and sixties, the field of neural networks has been steadily developing to become one of the most interdisciplinary areas of research within computer science. This volume contains selected papers from WIRN Vietri-98, the 10th Italian Workshop on Neural Nets, 21-23 May 1998, Vietri sul Mare, Salerno, Italy. This annual event, sponsored amongst others by the IEEE Neural Network Council and the INNS/SIG Italy, brings together the best of research from all over the world. The papers cover a range of key topics within neural networks, including pattern recognition, signal processing, hybrid systems, mathematical models, hardware and software design, and fuzzy techniques. It also includes two review talks on a Morpho-Functional Model to Describe Variability Found at Hippocampal Synapses and Neural Networks and Speech Processing. By providing the reader with a comprehensive overview of recent research in this area, the volume makes a valuable contribution to the Perspectives in Neural Computing Series.
This book presents an authoritative collection of contributions reporting on fuzzy logic and decision theory, together with applications and case studies in economics and management science. Dedicated to Professor Jaume Gil Aluja in recognition of his pioneering work, the book reports on theories, methods and new challenges, thus offering not only a timely reference guide but also a source of new ideas and inspirations for graduate students and researchers alike.
This book presents an overview of modeling and simulation of environmental systems via diverse research problems and pertinent case studies. It is divided into four parts covering sustainable water resources modeling, air pollution modeling, Internet of Things (IoT) based applications in environmental systems, and future algorithms and conceptual frameworks in environmental systems. Each of the chapters demonstrate how the models, indicators, and ecological processes could be applied directly in the environmental sub-disciplines. It includes range of concepts and case studies focusing on a holistic management approach at the global level for environmental practitioners. Features: Covers comp...
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 13th Italian Workshop on Neural Nets, WIRN VIETRI 2002, held in Vietri sul Mare, Italy in May/June 2002.The 21 revised full papers presented together with three invited papers were carefully reviewed and revised during two rounds of selection and improvement. The papers are organized in topical sections on architectures and algorithms, image and signal processing applications, and learning in neural networks.
As technology spreads globally, researchers and scientists continue to develop and study the strategy behind creating artificial life. This research field is ever expanding, and it is essential to stay current in the contemporary trends in artificial life, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. This an important topic for researchers and scientists in the field as well as industry leaders who may adapt this technology. The Handbook of Research on New Investigations in Artificial Life, AI, and Machine Learning provides concepts, theories, systems, technologies, and procedures that exhibit properties, phenomena, or abilities of any living system or human. This major reference work includes the most up-to-date research on techniques and technologies supporting AI and machine learning. Covering topics such as behavior classification, quality control, and smart medical devices, it serves as an essential resource for graduate students, academicians, stakeholders, practitioners, and researchers and scientists studying artificial life, cognition, AI, biological inspiration, machine learning, and more.
