This book introduces readers to the topical area of CSI: critical space infrastructure, which is defined as an emerging domain of systems-of-systems encompassing hardware, workforce, environment, facilities, business and organizational entities. Further, it includes unmanned air systems, satellites, rockets, space probes, and orbital stations, and involves multi-directional interactions essential for maintenance of vital societal functions (i.e., health, safety, economic and social well-being), the loss or disruption of which would have significant impact on virtually any nation. The topics covered include the main elements of CSI, CSI taxonomy, effects of CSI on other infrastructure systems...
This new book on Science and Technology Management is the result of a 4day Advanced NATO Workshop held in Sinala, Romania and addresses an important subject in today s fast moving world. Technology development, competitively and resulting employment, priorities and budget distribution, globalisation and evaluation processes, government s role and incentives, industrial participation, innovation and SME s international collaboration, scientific and technical aspirations and endeavours are included in its 33 presentations made by scientists, engineers and managers from 18 countries. The cross-fertilisation of ideas from east and west was most fruitful and the problems faced by the Central and Eastern European Countries in their course of transition to market economy are amply discussed. The reader will find useful information on the research and technology development structures of many countries, the methods of implementation and evaluation of research activities, the handling of specialised topics and the ways of maximising economic impact.
This book is aimed at managerial decision makers, practitioners in any field, and the academic community. The chapter authors have integrated theory with evidence-based practice to go beyond merely explaining cybersecurity topics. To accomplish this, the editors drew upon the combined cognitive intelligence of 46 scholars from 11 countries to present the state of the art in cybersecurity. Managers and leaders at all levels in organizations around the globe will find the explanations and suggestions useful for understanding cybersecurity risks as well as formulating strategies to mitigate future problems. Employees will find the examples and caveats both interesting as well as practical for e...
Space-critical infrastructures represent an interdependent system of systems consisting of workforce, environment, facilities, and multidirectional interactions. These are essential for the maintenance of vital societal functions such as health, safety, security, mobility, and the economic and social well-being of people, and their destruction or disruption would have a significant impact on society as a whole. In all, 79 nations and government consortia currently operate satellites, with 11 countries operating 22 launch sites. Despite creating new challenges, this multi-actor environment offers opportunities for international cooperation, but making the most of these opportunities requires ...
Today, space technology is used as an excellent instrument for Earth observation applications. Data is collected using satellites and other available platforms for remote sensing. Remote sensing data collection detects a wide range of electromagnetic energy which is emitting, transmitting, or reflecting from the Earth's surface. Appropriate detection systems are needed to implement further data processing. Space technology has been found to be a successful application for studying climate change, as current and past data can be dynamically compared. This book presents different aspects of climate change and discusses space technology applications.
This is an updated and expanded version of the international directory which provides information on the education, training and research opportunities available in different aspects of space science and technology in various education and scientific institutions, including basic space sciences, remote sensing, satellite communications and satellite meteorology.
Includes proceedings of the 51st- Colloquium on the Law of Outer Space, a report on the Colloquium, as well as proceedings of several other conferences sponsored or co-sponsored by the International Institute of Space Law.
