Mark Rogers is probably best known as the author and illustrator of the Samurai Cat books. Several fine examples of this work are included in the book. His art has been quite figure-intensive ever since, at the age of ten, he was caught out by his parents sketching naked ladies from his father's photography books. Apparently their comment was that the bodies were good but the faces needed more work!! This book brings together his love of science fiction and the female form. These are real women in real paintings who embrace their carnal nature and are then topped off with unreal, often light-hearted, trappings.

Uppercut is about 99er Rogers being laid off from his job in LA/NYC and having his unemployment run out. He ends up moving to Mexico to make a go of it. The book includes a harrowing episode where Rogers is detained by Homeland Security at the Tijuana border for 22 hours (with good reason) while staring down a 10-year sentence and $200K fine. But Rogers is determined to leave the U.S. for a better life in Mexico, while at the same time Mexicans are crossing the border into the U.S. for their own improved shot at life. "Uppercut is the story of a bona fide writer bravely baring his soul, warts and all, enduring test after test, surviving on promises and hope, who has not only lived it, but wa...

In Thirroul, Emily sits on the beach with her sort-of-ex-sort-of-not boyfriend, trying to figure out how to deal with her unwanted pregnancy. In Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Jana goes out to get groceries and slams into the day-to-day reality of the European refugee crisis. Superheroes is a play about two women on opposite sides of the world living small lives in a time of big politics. Its a play that parallels two very different lives to ask questions about what it means to take responsibility for your actions, and what it means to change your mind. This play won the 2019 Griffin Award and the 2019 Patrick White Award. A chamber piece for three actors, its a lyrical, inventive and deeply humane story from an exciting new voice. Its a play full of small surprises, not the least of which is finding a young Australian playwright who deeply believes in community, compassion and the essential good within humanity -- despite what the daily news would have us think.

Integrating Peacebuilding Into Humanitarian and Development Programming

Efforts by international organizations to integrate or mainstream peacebuilding across the diverse spectrum of humanitarian and development work has tended to be opportunistic and ad hoc. This paper seeks to clarify key terms, explore organizational frameworks and initiatives, provide some practical guidance, and list references or links to both thematic and procedural sources.
