The Creative City: Vision and Execution, edited by James E. Doyle and Biljana Mickov, challenges the popular understanding of the Creative City, by bridging the gap between the Creative City as concept and the Creative City as practice and, in so doing, provides a contemporary template for policy makers, city planners, and citizens alike. The book will offer researchers and pragmatists a series of real-life examples of successful cultural and creative practice throughout Europe, reflecting on the analysis and thinking that forms our contemporary understanding of the creative city. It will examine and explain the changes to the concept of the ’creative city’, explore its connectivity to t...

The Rural-Migration Nexus

This edited collection aims to examine the global-rural relationship of migration that shapes rural places. It does this by acknowledging that to understand the impact of the international migration-global nexus, it is essential to explore how it is experienced at a local level - in the context of this book, rural regions. Focusing on agribusiness and rural development, as well as the othering of international migrants and the shifting boundaries of belonging in rural spaces, the chapters in this book examine how globalisation, with migration being a constitutive feature, influences different rural contexts in the ‘Global North’ and the impact this has on migrant populations. Chapters demonstrate the harsh lived experiences/realities characterised by mental health issues and emotional labour for migrants, occupational health and safety issues in the workplace and experiences of exclusion and racism from ‘host’ communities. These chapters taken together identify a rural-migration nexus where the relationship between international migration and localised rural spaces are mutually constitutive.

Ethics of Emerging Biotechnologies

Pastor Fritz Jahr used the term bioethics as early as 1927. It was not until the early 1970s that the term was rediscovered in the United States. Since then, the relevance of this emergent academic field of studies has permanently been growing, as the age of biotechnological and medical innovations has only just begun. Enormous progress can be expected in various areas relevant to bioethical discourses in the coming decades and centuries. In the past years, the invention of CRISPR/Cas9 has radically changed the possibilities concerning genetic modifications, even germline modifications have turned into a practical option. These developments need to be investigated by academics from various disciplines, which is the reason why the conference series on Bioethics in the New Age of Science was initialized. The present volume consists in selected papers from the first International Conference on Bioethics in the New Age of Science, which took place on the 4th and 5th of May 2017 at the "Vasile Goldis" West University of Arad, Romania.

Numerous figures and tables are included to help understanding. This study, based on the author's doctoral dissertation at UCLA, examines Yugoslav economic policy from 1918 to 1929, how it was made, and how it was affected by political developments of the time. It studies the activities of Yugoslavia's regional political and business elites, political groups, and corporations, their reactions to Yugoslav economic policy and their efforts to influence it. The study contains a detailed analysis of party politics and the manner in which the political process affected economic policy. The study uncovers and explains relationships between state, elite, class, national-confessional groups, and territorial regions in the determination of social and economic policy in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, later renamed Yugoslavia, and the relationship between these groups and the Yugoslav state.

Steroids: The basic science and clinical aspects covers the modern understanding and clinical use of steroids. The history of steroids is richly immersed and runs long and deep. The modern history of steroids started in the early 20th century, but its use has been traced back to ancient Greece. We start by describing the basic science of steroids. We then describe different clinical situations where steroids play an important role. We hope that this book will contribute further to the literature available about steroids and enables the reader to further understand this interesting and rapidly evolving science.
