Understanding Photobooks is a user-friendly guide to engaging with the photographic book— or, as it is widely known, the photobook. Despite its importance as a central medium in which many photographers showcase their work today, there is surprisingly little information on the mechanics of the photobook: what exactly it does and how it does it. Written for makers and artists, this book will help you develop a better understanding of the images, concept, sequence, design, and production of the photobook. With an awareness of the connections between these elements, you’ll be able to evaluate photobooks more clearly and easily, ultimately allowing for a deeper and more rewarding experience of the work.
This book gives an insight into the current developments in the field of continuum mechanics. Twenty-five researchers present new theoretical concepts, e.g., better inclusion of the microstructure in the models describing material behavior. At the same time, there are also more applications for the theories in engineering practice. In addition to new theoretical approaches in continuum mechanics and applications, the book puts an emphasis on discussing multi-physics problems.
The handbook presents an overview of Industry 4.0 and offers solutions for important practical questions. The law and its current challenges regarding data assignment (who owns the data? / EU guidelines), data security, data protection (General Data Protection Regulation), cyberattacks, competition law (right to access vs. monopolists, permissible and prohibited exchanges of information, possible collaborations) is the point of departure. In turn, the book explores peculiarities in specific areas of Industry 4.0 (Internet of Production, mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence, electromobility, autonomous driving, traffic, medical science, construction, energy industry, etc.). The book’s closing section addresses general developments in management, the digital transformation of companies and the world of work, and ethical questions.
In this volume scientists and researchers from industry discuss the new trends in simulation and computing shell-like structures. The focus is put on the following problems: new theories (based on two-dimensional field equations but describing non-classical effects), new constitutive equations (for materials like sandwiches, foams, etc. and which can be combined with the two-dimensional shell equations), complex structures (folded, branching and/or self intersecting shell structures, etc.) and shell-like structures on different scales (for example: nano-tubes) or very thin structures (similar to membranes, but having a compression stiffness). In addition, phase transitions in shells and refined shell thermodynamics are discussed. The chapters of this book are the most exciting contributions presented at the EUROMECH 527 Colloquium “Shell-like structures: Non-classical Theories and Applications” held in Wittenberg, Germany.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th International Symposium on String Processing and Information Retrieval, SPIRE 2008, held in Melbourne, Australia, in November 2008. The 25 revised full papers presented together with 2 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 54 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on compression and performance, information retrieval scoring and ranking, string matching techniques, self-indexing, string matching: space and practicality, information retrieval, non-standard matching, and bioinformatics.
The fourth volume in a history of photography, this is a bibliography of books on the subject.
This engaging story of God's work in and through one family is a testament to His unpredictability and power. Until Jim follows God's plan, he uproots his family many times due to a restlessnesss he cannot shake. Then his infant son becomes critically ill, and Jim realizes that his family is safe only in God's will.
As one of the most debated categories of Tocharian nominal morphology, grammatical gender is in this book investigated from the point of view of Indo-European comparative reconstruction, by applying the methods of historical linguistics, Tocharian philology, and typological linguistics.
The energy industry worldwide is facing one of the most profound changes in its history, which will be accompanied by breakthrough innovations and the exponentially evolving use of artificial intelligence in business processes. In addition to the use of artificial intelligence and AI-supported unmanned systems (on land, at sea and in the air), distributed-ledger-technologies, extended reality and 3D-print based on cyber-physical systems and the Internet of Things, as well as process mining, robotic process automation, data science and cloud computing, for example, will not only decisively shape a sustainable energy supply system in the future, but also accelerate the transformation to energy...
