Composite Construction in Steel and Concrete 9

Composite Construction in Steel and Concrete IX The highly successful International Conference series on Composite Construction in Steel and Concrete is a major forum for researchers, practitioners, and engineers to share and discuss their research, practical experience and innovations related to composite constructions in steel and concrete. Composite Construction is a key consideration in the design of buildings and infrastructure. Significant advances in research and development have increased the knowledge of the structural performance of composite structures. Some areas are becoming well understood and implemented in the design practice, codes and standards worldwide, while others like,...

Proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Behaviour of Steel Structures in Seismic Areas

This volume highlights the latest advances, innovations, and applications in the field of seismic design and performance of steel structures, as presented by leading international researchers and engineers at the 10th International Conference on the Behaviour of Steel Structures in Seismic Areas (STESSA), held in Timisoara, Romania, on 25-27 May 2022. It covers a diverse range of topics such as behaviour of structural members and connections, performance of structural systems, mixed and composite structures, energy dissipation systems, self-centring and low-damage systems, assessment and retrofitting, codes and standards, light-gauge systems. The contributions, which were selected by means of a rigorous international peer-review process, present a wealth of exciting ideas that will open novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaboration among different specialists.

Sustainability in Structural Concrete Design

Sustainability in construction is a priority for both academia and industry to reduce the carbon footprint of the built environment and thus combat climate change. Numerous approaches have been developed on how to tackle this issue, wherein the implementation of eco-efficient concrete is currently considered one of the most effective measures to be applied at the beginning of a building’s life cycle. This edition of the Structural Engineering Document discusses key issues in selecting and incorporating eco-efficient waste materials capable of enhancing the sustainability of structural concrete in construction projects. The cost-efficiency of using recycled aggregates in structural concr...

Non-Smooth and Complementarity-Based Distributed Parameter Systems

Many of the most challenging problems in the applied sciences involve non-differentiable structures as well as partial differential operators, thus leading to non-smooth distributed parameter systems. This edited volume aims to establish a theoretical and numerical foundation and develop new algorithmic paradigms for the treatment of non-smooth phenomena and associated parameter influences. Other goals include the realization and further advancement of these concepts in the context of robust and hierarchical optimization, partial differential games, and nonlinear partial differential complementarity problems, as well as their validation in the context of complex applications. Areas for which applications are considered include optimal control of multiphase fluids and of superconductors, image processing, thermoforming, and the formation of rivers and networks. Chapters are written by leading researchers and present results obtained in the first funding phase of the DFG Special Priority Program on Nonsmooth and Complementarity Based Distributed Parameter Systems: Simulation and Hierarchical Optimization that ran from 2016 to 2019.
