New Arctic Cinemas
For centuries, the Arctic was visualized as an unchanging, stable, and rigidly alien landscape, existing outside twenty-first-century globalization. It is now impossible to ignore the ways the climate crisis, expanding resource extraction, and Indigenous political mobilization in the circumpolar North are constituent parts of the global present. New Arctic Cinemas presents an original, comparative, and interventionist historiography of film and media in twenty-first-century Scandinavia, Greenland, Russia, Canada, and the United States to situate Arctic media in the place it rightfully deserves to occupy: as central to global environmental concerns and Indigenous media sovereignty and self-determination movements. The works of contemporary Arctic filmmakers, from Zacharias Kunuk and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril to Amanda Kernell and Inuk Silis Høegh, reach worldwide audiences. Traveller, Nomadic and Migrant Education
Traveller, Nomadic and Migrant Education presents international accounts of approaches to educating mobile communities such as circus and fairground people, herders, hunters, Roma and Travellers. The chapters focus on three key dimensions of educational change: the client group moving from school to school; those schools having their demographics changed and seeking to change the mobile learners; and these learners contributing to fundamental change to the nature of schooling. The book brings together decades of research into the challenges and opportunities presented by mobile learners interacting with educational systems predicated on fixed residence. It identifies several obstacles to those learners receiving an equitable education, including negative stereotypes and centuries-old prejudice. Yet the book also explores a number of educational innovations that bring mobility and schooling together, ranging from specialised literacy programs and distance and online education to mobile schools and specially trained teachers. These innovations allow us to think differently about how education can and should be, for mobile and non-mobile learners alike.

In the Shadow of the Midnight Sun
This is the first extensive anthology of contemporary Sami literature in English. The Sami are the indigenous people inhabiting Northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia's Kola Peninsula. Twenty-one authors from all four countries are represented with poetry, short stories and excerpts from novels. Many of the authors are award-winners, and some have been included in Nordic and international collections. The readers will be introduced to a variety of themes and experiences, from wolves attacking a reindeer herd to river boat rafting and the making of a shaman drum, from the most tender love poems in Arctic surroundings to the bitter realities in the everyday life of a suppressed minority.
