Jean-Michel d'Aron, son of Alain d'Aron, owner of the noble inn "Zum Weißen Falken" in Paris, was born in 1769. As a student, he was forced to flee during the night of the fire in Paris in 1793. He stayed in La Rochelle and Marseille before making his way to the Occitan Alps to visit an inn that was up for sale. On the way, he meets Don Luciano Varini, the leader of a criminal empire that controls the smuggling of goods in the Occitan Alps, as well as racketeering and prostitution. The encounter with Don Luciano Varini becomes a threat to Jean-Michel d'Aron and his family.

Mediterranean studies flourish in literary and cultural studies, but concepts of the Mediterranean and the theories and methods they use are very disparate. This is because the Mediterranean is not a simple geographical or historical unity, but a multiplicity, a network of highly interconnected elements, each of which is different and individual. Talking about Mediterranean literature raises the question of whether the connectivity of Mediterranean literature can or should be limited in some way by constructing an inside and an outside of the Mediterranean. What kind of connectivity and fragmentation do literary texts produce, how do they build and interrupt references (to the real, to fictional forms of representation, to history, but also to other texts and discourses), how do they create and deny communication, and how do they engage with and reflect literary and non-literary concepts of the Mediterranean? These and other questions are considered and discussed in the over twenty contributions gathered in this volume.
The Theatre of Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio chronicles four years in the life of an extraordinary Italian theatre company whose work is widely recognized as some of the most exciting theatre currently being made in Europe. Based on an ethnographic study of mobilisations of the Comorian diaspora in Marseille during political and cultural events, the book examines communitarisation in relation to three thematic areas, namely spaces, cultural markets and local politics. Drawing on Foucault’s concept of the dispositif, the author analyses mobilisations of postcolonial diaspora as part of a dispositif of communitarisation, that is, a set of discourses, practices, institutions and subjectivations of diasporic community.
