Ein Grund, warum Susanna nach Brasilien flüchtete und sich insbesondere für Rio de Janeiro entschied, waren die im Gegensatz zum europäischen Klima milden Jahreszeiten. Die Kälte ihrer Kindheit schwächte sich hier zu sepiafarbenen Bildern bis zur Unkenntlichkeit ab, fertiggelebt, in einem Album, das niemand mehr brauchte. Durch das Verschwinden Batinkas konnte sie endlich mit der Tragik ihres Lebens abschließen. Sie verdankte es größtenteils den großartigen Menschen, die sich ihre Freunde nannten. Ohne sie, das wusste Susanna, hätte sie sich wohl kaum aus der rekursiven Schleife ihres Unglücks befreien können.
