Worship in Spirit and Truth

Following the death of H. A. Reinhold in 1968, Godfrey Diekmann referred to him as a liturgical prophet." Diekmann, a liturgical giant in his own right, called on others to follow in Reinhold's steps and "take up his mantle in the thorny task" of pastorally implementing the liturgical changes brought about by the Second Vatican Council. Over forty years later, that task remains every bit the challenge it was in Reinhold's day. As cries for social justice resound, liturgy more than ever must be the tie of relevance that binds the church to the world. It is this essential link 'between liturgy and social justice 'that Julia Upton discovered in Reinhold and that she wonderfully retrieves in tracing his life and legacy. In doing so, she takes up H. A. Reinhold's prophetic mantle and inspires us to do so as well. Julia Upton, RSM, is a member of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. She holds a doctorate in theology from Fordham University and is professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at St. John's University (NY), where she currently serves as university provost. HACKAMORE REINSMAN by ED CONNELL, first published in 1952, is a hands-on manual of instruction that describes in detail the use of the hackamore and snaffle bit. He takes green horse and trainer from the first bosal and ground-pulling to the point that the horse will slide and whirl on the hackamore. Ed's method is pure "Californio" having descended from the Moors and then the Spaniards who brought this training to the New World, developing the hair-trigger reined horses found in California. It is the Spanish method of breaking and training a horse before it is ever bitted. The focus is on making a finished hackamore horse with an untouched mouth. It emphasizes the art of reinsmanship as practiced, developed and perfected by the Old Californios and remains the bible of all books on hackamore training. Connell's 2nd book, REINSMAN OF THE WEST -- BRIDLES & BITS, gives the WHY and HOW of making a spade bit horse out of the hackamore horse, using the methods of the Old California Vaqueros. It explains how to choose the right bit and how to use that bit to get the most from your horse. Website: www.hackamore-reinsman.com.

A Stunning World of Faith, Family, and Friendship- and The Unforeseeable

Much of the world we live in is perceived by many as dangerous and unfriendly. Well into his early adulthood, the author thought so, to the extent that he had little interest in traveling outside the boundaries of his homeland. He certainly lacked any interest whatsoever in traveling overseas. While the author travelled extensively throughout the United States for work-related as well as personal purposes, preplanning of trip details was the norm. Assistance of tourist agencies was utilized regularly in order to assure comfort and safety. Overnight accommodations were almost always prearranged. All plans focused on assuring comfort and convenience. While the author proclaimed Christian faith...
