Maxwell's Handbook for AACR2

For application of the most current Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, there is but one standard: Maxwell's Handbook for AACR2. This practical and authoritative cataloging how-to, now in its Fourth Edition, has been completely revised inclusive of the 2003 update to AACR2. Designed to interpret and explain AACR2,Maxwell illustrates and applies the latest cataloging rules to the MARC record for every type of information format. Focusing on the concept of integrating resources, where relevant information may be available in different formats, the revised edition also addresses the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) and the cataloging needs of electronic books and digital reproductions of ...

Etruscan Italy

Livy describes the Etruscans as filling the whole of ancient Italy with their power and influence. While Etruscan rule throughout large parts of the Italian peninsula endured for but a few centuries, Etruscan influence was so extensive that in some respects it continues into the present. Outside the Etruscan heartland, Rome itself was perhaps the best preserver of things Etruscan. The fourteen essays comprising this volume explore Etruscan Italy and examine the influence exerted by Etruscan civilization upon the cultures of Italy in Roman and post-Roman times. Represented are contributions from various disciplines which converge to employ multiple methodologies in a comprehensive approach to delineating the enduring themes of Etruscan Italy.

L'époque de la Renaissance

L'Époque de la Renaissance. Crises et essors nouveaux (1560–1610), a collaborative literary history of the second half of the sixteenth century in Europe, responds to a number of challenges, including those critical of the Renaissance concept itself in favour of a broader Early Modern concept. It inventories the writings of its chosen time-span in the broadest cultural sense while remaining attentive to the strong aesthetic emphases and achievements that prevailed. In its descriptions of literary phenomena the book takes into account their diverse historical contexts throughout Europe, including eastern Europe, thus often stressing differences rather than conformities. Its main divisions ...

Maxwell's Handbook for AACR2R

In Maxwell's Handbook for AACR2R, the authors have included the 1993 Amendments of the Joint Steering Committee for Revision of Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, provided all examples in the widely used MARC format, considered rule interpretations of the major Anglo-American national libraries, updated all of the chapters, and added a completely new chapter on manuscripts to correspond with AACR2R. This revision of the cataloging classic follows the easy-to-use format of the previous edition and is packed with hundreds of examples that fully explain the cataloging rules to veteran and student catalogers alike.

Aldine Press Books at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, the University of Texas at Austin

Aldus Manutius (c. 1450-1515) came to Venice in 1490 and published his first book, a Greek grammar by Constantine Lascaris, in 1494-1495. Active throughout the sixteenth century, the Aldine Press revolutionized the production, accessibility, and use of the book. Most of its early publications were of Greek texts, including a folio edition of the works of Aristotle and first editions of more than ninety other Greek texts, but from the beginning the press also published many important Latin and Italian authors in a variety of fields. Aldus introduced a number of innovations which helped shape the development of the modern book, including italic type and the smaller pocket-sized volume. The Ran...
