Biomechanical Research Project, Athens 1997
The final report of the Biomechanics Research Project carried out during the 6th World Athletics Championships in Athens, 1997. The purposes of this project were: to update the database of biomechanical parameters of elite athletes; to support coaches and athletes with quantitative information on individual techniques; to improve the general knowledge of the limiting factors of athletic performance; to generate data on gender specific techniques; and to support the international media in producing competent, attractive athletics coverage and presentation of the colected scientific data.
The Russian Empire, 1801-1917
This volume in the Oxford History of Modern Europe series surveys the development of the Russian empire from the reign of Alexander I to the abdication of Nicholas II. The book centres on political and social history - the history of institutions, classes, political movements, and individuals. Foreign policy is considered from the Russian rather that the general European angle. Attention is also paid to the non-Russian peoples, who formed half the population of what was essentially a multi-national empire. The author's aim has been to see the period as it was, not - as in many modern works - in terms of what happened after it. The book draws on a large body of Russian documentary material, as well as on numerous Russian memoirs, contemporary comment by Russians and by foreign observers, and the important work of Soviet and foreign scholars. In its research, analysis, and interpretation, it is an exciting and original contribution to the study of pre-revolutionary Russia.
Native Liberty
Gerald Vizenor was a journalist for the Minneapolis Tribune when he discovered that his direct ancestors were the editor and publisher of The Progress, the first Native newspaper on the White Earth Reservation in Minnesota. Vizenor, inspired by the kinship of nineteenth century Native journalists, has pursued a similar sense of resistance in his reportage, editorial essays, and literary art. Vizenor reveals in Native Liberty the political, poetic, visionary, and ironic insights of personal identity and narratives of cultural sovereignty. He examines singular acts of resistance, natural reason, literary practices, and other strategies of survivance that evade and subvert the terminal notions of tragedy and victimry. Native Liberty nurtures survivance and creates a sense of cultural and historical presence. Vizenor, a renowned Anishinaabe literary scholar and artist, writes in a direct narrative style that integrates personal experiences with original presentations, comparative interpretations, and critiques of legal issues and historical situations.
Science Fiction, Imperialism and the Third World
Though science fiction is often thought of as a Western phenomenon, the genre has long had a foothold in countries as diverse as India and Mexico. These fourteen critical essays examine both the role of science fiction in the third world and the role of the third world in science fiction. Topics covered include science fiction in Bengal, the genre's portrayal of Native Americans, Mexican cyberpunk fiction, and the undercurrents of colonialism and Empire in traditional science fiction. Red Pedagogy
This ground-breaking text explores the intersection between dominant modes of critical educational theory and the socio-political landscape of American Indian education. Grande asserts that, with few exceptions, the matters of Indigenous people and Indian education have been either largely ignored or indiscriminately absorbed within critical theories of education. Furthermore, American Indian scholars and educators have largely resisted engagement with critical educational theory, tending to concentrate instead on the production of historical monographs, ethnographic studies, tribally-centered curricula, and site-based research. Such a focus stems from the fact that most American Indian scholars feel compelled to address the socio-economic urgencies of their own communities, against which engagement in abstract theory appears to be a luxury of the academic elite. While the author acknowledges the dire need for practical-community based research, she maintains that the global encroachment on Indigenous lands, resources, cultures and communities points to the equally urgent need to develop transcendent theories of decolonization and to build broad-based coalitions.

The Undead and Theology
