The proceedings of this workshop consideres the prospects for opening up a new window on the universe with the generation of High Energy Neutrino telescopes now under construction or being planned. Potential sources of high energy neutrinos such as binary pulsars, supernovae, and active galactic nuclei are discussed. In particular, the recent model of Stecker and collaborators, in which neutrinos with energies as high as 1000 TeV are produced in measurable quantities in the cores of quasars and other active galaxies is critically reviewed.
This volume provides a comprehensive account of how scholarship on affect and scholarship on texts have come to inform one another over the past few decades. The result has been that explorations of how texts address, elicit, shape, and dramatize affect have become central to contemporary work in literary, film, and art criticism, as well as in critical theory, rhetoric, performance studies, and aesthetics. Guiding readers to the variety of topics, themes, interdisciplinary dialogues, and sub-disciplinary specialties that the study of interplay between affect and texts has either inaugurated or revitalized, the handbook showcases and engages the diversity of scholarly topics, approaches, and projects that thinking of affect in relation to texts and related media open up or enable. These include (but are not limited to) investigations of what attention to affect brings to established methods of studying texts—in terms of period, genre, cultural contexts, rhetoric, and individual authorship.

The tribological properties of relatively moving surfaces are greatly influenced by thin surface films which are of considerable importance in the design of machine components. From Victorian days when working lubricant films were calculated in tens of micrometres, to today when molecular dynamics simulations and even experiments are beginning to look at nanometre, single molecule thick films, the study of surfaces which is the tribologists' challenge has moved to finer and finer scales.The 66 papers in this volume provide reviews across the tribological field with thin films as their theme, giving a comprehensive and concise description on topics ranging from coatings and surface modification to bio-tribology. The articles provide the reader with an outline of their most effective application and potential uses in new technologies.
