Sedimentary Processes, Environments and Basins
For several decades Peter Friend has been one of the leading figures in sedimentary geology and throughout that time he has helped scores of other people by supervising doctoral students, collaborating with colleagues, especially in developing countries, and selflessly sharing ideas with fellow geologists. This collection of papers is a survey of the research frontier in basin dynamics, a field Peter Friend helped initiate, and a token of thanks from people who have benefited from an association with Peter during their careers. The papers in this book fall into four themes - Tectonics and sedimentation, Landscape evolution and provenance, Depositional systems and Fluvial sedimentation - which reflect Peter's research interests and are all important areas of current research in sedimentary geology. There are both case studies and review articles on these themes which reflect recent work, but the collection can also be considered to be a 'sampler' of sedimentary geology for anyone with broad interests in the Earth sciences.
35th IAS Meeting of Sedimentology: Book of Abstracts
The 35th International Meeting of Sedimentology supported by the International Association of Sedimentologists is an annual conference with global impact among the community of sedimentary geologists. Original scheduled at June 2020, the 35 the IAS Meeting of Sedimentology was postponed to June 21-25, 2021, and will be held virtually. The Genesis Cataclysm
Are there sufficient evidences to plausibly warrant positing a global Noahic Flood within the auspices of a specific Old-Earth biblical paradigm? If so, what are they? It is our firm conviction that God has allowed the passage of time to cover the blatant earthen signs of the Noahic Flood in such a way, and just enough, as to require earnest seekers of truth to use their eyes of faith and their vision of the kingdom metanarrative—along with their empirical sight and senses—to view and interpret the richness of the evidence. Prerequisites in this quest include a great respect for the authority of Holy Scripture, a pure heart with a simple desire for God’s truth, and a relentless willingness to look for both “the forest and the trees” (viz., to see the multitudes of seemingly unrelated small scenes always in light of the big picture). The negation of any of these necessities will completely nullify the veracity of one’s conclusions. However, we strongly aver that the totality of these necessities can bring the historical truth of the mystery of the Noahic Flood into a much, much greater clarity.
African Paleoecology and Human Evolution

Bondage and the Environment in the Indian Ocean World
Monsoon rains, winds, and currents have shaped patterns of production and exchange in the Indian Ocean world (IOW) for centuries. Consequently, as this volume demonstrates, the environment has also played a central role in determining the region’s systems of bondage and human trafficking. Contributors trace intricate links between environmental forces, human suffering, and political conditions, examining how they have driven people into servile labour and shaped the IOW economy. They illuminate the complexities of IOW bondage with case studies, drawn chiefly from the mid-eighteenth century, on Sudan, Cape Colony, Réunion, China, and beyond, where chattel slavery (as seen in the Atlantic world) represented only one extreme of a wide spectrum of systems of unfree labour. The array of factors examined here, including climate change, environmental disaster, disease, and market forces, are central to IOW history—and to modern-day forms of human bondage.
