Mit den Kirchenvätern gegen Martin Luther? Mathias Mütel untersucht in der Studie »Die auctoritas patrum auf dem Tridentinum« die Kirchenväterrezeption in der Traditionsdebatte des Tridentinums. Im Jahr 2013 wurde das 450-jährige Jubiläum des Abschlusses des Tridentinums begangen; 2017 wird der Reformation gedacht. Beide Ereignisse sind inhaltlich aufeinander bezogen. Es war nicht zuletzt die Frage nach der Bedeutung außerbiblischer Autoritäten, wie den Kirchenvätern, die Gegenstand der Auseinandersetzungen zwischen katholischen und reformatorischen Theologen war. Die vorliegende Studie untersucht die Kirchenväter¬rezeption in der Trienter Traditionsdebatte, vor allem in Hinblick auf die Auseinandersetzung mit den Anliegen der Reformation. Stand der Rekurs auf die Kirchenväter (und die Arbeit am Traditionsbegriffs) im Dienst antireformatorischer Abgrenzung oder sollte er einen Brückenschlag zu den Anliegen der Reformation ermöglichen?
