MINDS 2021
MInDS is an intensive learning model, and as often happens with acronyms, it is a play on words. It is a name, of course, which refers to different ways of thinking. But it is also an abbreviation, which stands for Milano Intensive Design Studio and which, in this sense, indicates a particular teaching model conceived as an international exchange and education platform, activated in the Master's degree program in “Architecture Built Environment Interior” of the Politecnico di Milano.
MIAW 2020
The MIAW-Milan International Architecture Workshop is the international intensive programme at the Politecnico di Milano - School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering, that provides an international design forum for schools, teachers and students, but it is also an informal platform to discuss issues and share ambitions that education implies. Its aim is to stimulate cross-over thinking between researches and practitioners in the design field, involving different scales and encouraging an interdisciplinary approach towards design problems. Each class has an international guest professor of high profile whose activity and interests are related to the different study courses and disciplinary areas characterising our School.
Concrete Mushrooms
During Albania's period under the rule of the Marxist-Leninist Enver Hoxha between 1945 and 1985, some 750,000 bunkers were constructed all over the Albanian landscape. All are rounded and mushroom-like in design, and remain as a legacy of Hoxha's fear-based isolationist policies. Organised Crime in Europe
This volume represents the first attempt to systematically compare organised crime concepts, as well as historical and contemporary patterns and control policies in thirteen European countries. These include seven ‘old’ EU Member States, two ‘new’ members, a candidate country, and three non-EU countries. Based on a standardised research protocol, thirty-three experts from different legal and social disciplines provide insight through detailed country reports. On this basis, the editors compare organised crime patterns and policies in Europe and assess EU initiatives against organised crime.

Photography and Invisible Borders

About Star Architecture
Cities across the world have been resorting to star architects to brand their projects, spark urban regeneration and market the city image internationally. This book shifts the attention from star architects to star architecture, arguing that the process of deciding about and implementing relevant architectural and urban projects is not the product of any single actor. Star architecture can, in fact, be better studied and understood as assembled by multiple actors and in its relationship with urban transformation. In its 18 chapters, the book presents a multidisciplinary collection of expert contributions in the fields of urban planning, architecture, media studies, urban economics, geography, and sociology, consistently brought together for the first time to deal with this topic. Through a vast array of case studies and analytical techniques touching over 20 cities in Europe, the book shows the positive and more problematic impacts of star architecture with reference to the preservation of built heritage, tourism and media. The book will be of interest to architects, sociologists, urban planners, and public administrators.
