The Death of Absolutism
In his book, The Death of Absolutism: Finding Freedom from Certainty In an Uncertain World, Matthew R Lloyd argues that the view we hold of the universe and of our own existence is essentially a lie; a self constructed illusion cleverly designed for the purpose of lulling ourselves into a false sense of security. In addition, he explains that the attempt to live according to this lie is what is ultimately responsible for the destruction of our planet, friends, family, and even our own selves. But why would any self-respecting person want to live under such false pretenses? Why would anyone knowingly and willingly subject his or herself to such mental and emotional torture? Moreover, if humans really are only lying to themselves, destroying everything we know and care for as a result, what are we supposed to do to resolve this issue? The Death of Absolutism attempts to provide answers to these questions and more. But more importantly, it works to provide an explanation of how humans might make better use of their natural practical problem solving skills to overcome the desire to persist in conjuring up and living in accordance with such grand illusory states.
