Ulrich Schmiedel and Hannah Strømmen examine the theologies that emerge in the far right across Europe, concentrating on Norway, Germany and Great Britain. They explore how churches in these three countries have been complicit, complacent or critical of the far right, sometimes intentionally and sometimes unintentionally. Ultimately, Schmiedel and Strømmen encourage a creative and collaborative theological response. To counter the far right, Christianity needs to be practiced in an open and open-ended way which calls Christians into contact with Muslims.
The Bibles of the Far Right is about a far-right worldview that has taken hold in contemporary Europe. It focuses on the role Bibles have come to play in this worldview. Starting with the case of far-right terrorism in Norway in 2011, the study argues that particular perceptions of "the Bible" and particular uses of biblical texts have been significant in calls to "protect" Europe against Islam. This study proposes new ways to understand political Bible-use today in order to respond to violence inspired by biblical texts.

How do we talk meaningfully about the sacred in contexts where conventional religious expression has so often lost its power? This book focuses on the question of how to understand conflict and its place in Catholic and Christian social ethics. The author examines Catholic social teaching (CST) for its explicit mentions of conflict or contention and analyzes the way that CST addresses the subjects of peace, labor, and environment. While CST offers precedent to think about conflict within the frame of Catholic ethics, its lack of explicit engagement remains a major obstacle to a full, rich, and concrete understanding of the fabric of society and the work of social justice. Any social ethic that is not informed by the presence of conflict misses a major dynamic in society, and therefore leads to ethical judgements that are at best inadequate, and at worst, actively harmful. Building upon the insight of respected thinkers within Catholic social thought, this study is based on an interdisciplinary method that engages sociology, political theory, postcolonial theory, and intersectional feminist ethics. The book will be of particular interest to theological ethicists and those who work with modern CST.
