QGIS and Applications in Agriculture and Forest

These four volumes present innovative thematic applications implemented using the open source software QGIS. These are applications that use remote sensing over continental surfaces. The volumes detail applications of remote sensing over continental surfaces, with a first one discussing applications for agriculture. A second one presents applications for forest, a third presents applications for the continental hydrology, and finally the last volume details applications for environment and risk issues.

Land Surface Remote Sensing: Environment and Risks explores the use of remote sensing in applications concerning the environment, including desertification and monitoring deforestation and forest fires. The first chapter covers the characterization of aerosols and gases by passive remote sensing. The next chapter presents the correlation of optical images for quantifying the deformation of the Earth's surface and geomorphological processes. The third chapter is examines remote sensing applications in the mining environment. The fourth chapter depicts the strong potential of radar imagery for volcanology and urban and mining subsidence studies. The next two chapters deal respectively with the...

Fifth recent advances in quantitative remote sensing

The Fifth International Symposium on Recent Advances in Quantitative Remote Sensing was held in Torrent, Spain from 18 to 22 September 2018. It was sponsored and organized by the Global Change Unit (GCU) from the Image Processing Laboratory (IPL), University of Valencia (UVEG), Spain. This Symposium addressed the scientific advances in quantitative remote sensing in connection with real applications. Its main goal was to assess the state of the art of both theory and applications in the analysis of remote sensing data, as well as to provide a forum for researcher in this subject area to exchange views and report their latest results. In this book 89 of the 262 contributions presented in both plenary and poster sessions are arranged according to the scientific topics selected. The papers are ranked in the same order as the final programme.

A World Without Soil

A celebrated biologist's manifesto addressing a soil loss crisis accelerated by poor conservation practices and climate change "Jo Handelsman is a national treasure, and her clarion call warning of a looming soil-loss catastrophe must be heard. Add her clearly written alarm to other future-shocks: climate change, pandemics, and mass extinctions."--Laurie Garrett, Pulitzer Prize winner and author of The Coming Plague: Newly Emerging Diseases in a World out of Balance "The ground beneath our feet is slipping away as we lose the precious soil that sustains us. Jo Handelsman's writing--as rich and life supporting as the soil itself--is a riveting warning."--Alan Alda, actor, writer, and host of ...

Preventive Diplomacy In Non-traditional Security Issues: Asean-china Public Health And Environmental Cooperation

As a key part and parcel of sustainable development of ASEAN-China relations, cooperation in non-traditional security issues has become a new growth area for both sides. This book is divided into three parts. The first part takes stock of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in 30 years of ASEAN-China public health cooperation, covering topics such as digital health and personnel training cooperation, global vaccine distribution and PPP in public health in Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. The second part explores how to reconnect ASEAN and China, which includes sharing the experiences of member states on vaccine multilateralism and offering proposals for practicable and safer regional standards to institute green lanes, travel bubbles and COVID-19 travel passports to strengthen the regional economy, especially in mass tourism. The third part introduces ASEAN-China cooperation on Nature based solutions (NBS) to environmental issues, including Southeast Asia's vulnerability to climate change and its Low Carbon Pathway, and NBS for climate change adaptation in Vietnam's Mekong Delta.
