These Proceedings represent the metallurgical engineering and materials science research presented at the 62nd Annual Conference of Metallurgists (COM 2023), held in Toronto, Canada, from 21 to 24 August 2023. The Annual Conference of Metallurgists is organized by the Metallurgy & Materials Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (MetSoc of CIM). The collection themed ‘Climate Change and Sustainability’ presents findings on a wide range of topics, including: Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Sustainability: Integration for Better Outcomes Light Metals for Transportation and Next Generation Vehicles Derek Kerfoot Memorial Pressure Hydrometallurgy Symposium Laplante-Laskowski Symposium on Mineral Processing Fundamentals Wasmund Memorial Symposium of Sustainability in Pyrometallurgy
Excerpt from Iron and Steel: An Introductory Text-Book for Engineers and Metallurgists In this small book an attempt is made to present in as short a manner as possible the more important principles of the metallurgy of iron and steel, and it is hoped that engineers and other users of these metals, as well as students of metallurgy, will find something of value in its pages. Practical details of the methods of production have been avoided almost entirely, in order that more attention may be devoted to such matters as an explanation of the constitution of steel and cast iron and the effect of mechanical and heat treatment on the properties of these alloys. The important subject of corrosion o...
This book explains the metallurgy of steel and its heat treatment for non-metallurgists. It starts from simple concepts--beginning at the level of high-school chemistry classes--and building to more complex concepts involved in heat treatment of most all types of steel as well as cast iron. It was inspired by the author when working with practicing bladesmiths for more than 15 years. Most chapters in the book contain a summary at the end. These summaries provide a short review of the contents of each chapter. This book is THE practical primer on steel metallurgy for those who heat, forge, or machine steel.
