Skagens Museum collects works from the painter and sculptor Laurits Tuxen on an ongoing basis, and - together with The Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle - holds one of the largest public collections of his art. However the majority of his works are privately owned, and are therefore unknown to the Danish museum-going public. This is surely a key reason that no central overview of his oeuvre exists to date; a factor that has contributed to placing him in the shadows of such better-known Skagen painters as Anna and Michael Ancher, and not least Tuxen’s good friend P.S.
