Jing is the only daughter of a loyal communist from a small village in the PRC. After high school, she has the choice to continue studying in Beijing or to marry one of the villagers. Both choices are difficult. Her father does not want her marrying one of the farmers. Eventually, she chooses to leave. On the train, she meets the spirited Mongolian Badam who lives in Beijing. He soon seduces Jing. They fall in love, which leads to a passionate relationship with dramatic consequences.
