Qu'est-ce qui motive le choix des langues de la religion dans des situations de plurilinguisme généralisé comme c'est le cas en Afrique et ailleurs ? Comment est-ce que les questions identitaires sont traitées dans le cadre religieux et quelles valeurs accorde-t-on aux langues de la religion, comparativement aux autres langues qui se partagent un espace sociolinguistique donné ? Quels sont les processus à l'oeuvre dans les communautés où les membres ont en commun les mêmes croyances, les mêmes pratiques, les mêmes rites ? Enfin, comment rendre compte, sur les plans théoriques et méthodologiques, de la relation entre langues et religions ? Les réponses, nécessairement plurielles, croisées et inspirées de la sociolinguistique et de l'analyse du discours s'articulent autour d'une diversité de sujet. Elles sont matérialisées au travers d'études et de réflexions sur plusieurs terrains-laboratoires du Cameroun, du Nigeria, du Sénégal, du Mali et des Antilles françaises.
L'insécurité linguistique dans les communautés anglophone et francophone du Cameroun
Tout contact de langues est potentiellement générateur de conflits linguistiques. Le français et l'anglais sont en contact au Cameroun dans le cadre d'un bilinguisme officiel ayant résulté de la double colonisation, française et britannique (1919-1960). L'objectif de cet ouvrage est l'examen des conflits linguistiques sous le prisme de la théorie sociolinguistique de l'insécurité linguistique dans un contexte de bilinguisme officiel français/anglais, auprès des communautés linguistiques francophone et anglophone du Cameroun.

Ce Dictionnaire est un outil didactique et usuel, qui théorise le français camerounais, appelé Camfranglais. C’est une langue patchwork usitée d’abord par les jeunes urbains camerounais, puis par la classe populaire, avec l’intention de codifier le langage. Or, les deux langues officielles du Cameroun sont le français et l’anglais. La sélection des mots du présent Dictionnaire n’est pas exhaustive, puisque le Camfranglais ne cesse d’évoluer.
