El proceso de modernización de la educación superior europea, siguiendo la estrategia de la Comisión Europea "Educación y Formación 2020", establece una serie de prioridades, entre las que se encuentra la mejora de la calidad y la idoneidad de la enseñanza. Los programas educativos han de modernizarse, a través de métodos docentes flexibles e innovadores, con el fin último de formar a titulados con competencias que se adecúen a la demanda actual de trabajo cualificado. Una manera de mejorar la calidad de la enseñanza consiste en lograr un seguimiento más individualizado del proceso de aprendizaje de cada alumno, permitiendo esto "personalizar" la identificación de posibles problemas de aprendizaje y la solución a dichos problemas.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th Conference of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence, CAEPIA 2007, held in Salamanca, Spain, in November 2007, in conjunction with the 7th Workshop on Artificial Intelligence Technology Transfer, TTIA 2007. The 28 revised full papers presented were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and improvement from 134 submissions. The papers address all current issues of artificial intelligence ranging from methodological and foundational aspects to advanced applications in various fields.

Model Predictive Control of Microgrids

Microgrids Design and Implementation
This book addresses the emerging trend of smart grids in power systems. It discusses the advent of smart grids and selected technical implications; further, by combining the perspectives of researchers from Europe and South America, the book captures the status quo of and approaches to smart grids in a wide range of countries. It describes the basic concepts, enabling readers to understand the theoretical aspects behind smart grid formation, while also examining current challenges and philosophical discussions. Like the industrial revolution and the birth of the Internet, smart grids are certain to change the way people use electricity. In this regard, a new term – the “prosumer” – is used to describe consumers who may sometimes also be energy producers. This is particularly appealing if we bear in mind that most of the distributed power generation in smart grids does not involve carbon emissions. At first glance, the option of generating their own power could move consumers to leave their current energy provider. Yet the authors argue that doing so is not a wise choice: utilities will play a central role in this new scenario and should not be ignored.
