Peter Deunov as Remembered by Milka Periklieva

This book, Peter Deunov, as Remembered by Milka Periklieva - a Disciple, presents a selection of Milka's reminiscences in order to give a personal impression of the Master. The author, Milka Periklieva (1908-1978), was born in Bulgaria in the Black Sea coastal town of Varna. When she was fourteen years old, Milka became interested in the teaching of the Master, Peter Deunov (1864-1944), who had the spiritual name of Beinsa Douno. A kindergarten teacher by profession, Milka also wrote educational stories and plays for children according to the teaching and methods of the Master, and with his personal guidance. At the Master's request, in 1937, she recorded the movements of his spiritual dance, the Paneurhythmy, which became the basis of a book that was published the following year.

Peter Deunov represents the third major esoteric spiritual impulse in Bulgaria following on Orphism (which led to Pythagoreanism and Platonism) and the 10th century Bogomils (literally meaning 'Dear to God'). All three impulses are historical manifestations of the Fellowship of the Light based on the cardinal principles of Divine Love, Divine Wisdom and Divine Truth. This exquisitely illustrated book is the first full biography to appear in English. It covers every period of his life, including his time in America, and is filled with fascinating details that shed greater light on the meaning of his spiritual mission. Numerous photographs and beautiful illustrations add greater substance to this biography.

The Yoga of Nutrition

The Yoga of Nutrition

This is not a dietary handbook. In fact it has little to do with diet. Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov teaches that our attitude toward nutrition is far more important than what we eat or how much we eat. He restores to the act of eating the mystical significance it attained at the Last Supper. Even the reader to whom this spiritual aspect is foreign will realize that his attitude toward food can lead to a deeper understanding of the relation between man and nature, for nature supplies man with food, and man, if his thoughts and feelings are attuned to nature, becomes capable of extracting from his physical food the subtle elements necessary to the full flowering of his whole being.

Non-Muslims in the Early Islamic Empire

The Muslim conquest of the East in the seventh century entailed the subjugation of Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians and others. Although much has been written about the status of non-Muslims in the Islamic empire, no previous works have examined how the rules applying to minorities were formulated. Milka Levy-Rubin's remarkable book traces the emergence of these regulations from the first surrender agreements in the immediate aftermath of conquest to the formation of the canonic document called the Pact of 'Umar, which was formalized under the early 'Abbasids, in the first half of the ninth century. The study reveals that the conquered peoples themselves played a major role in the creation of these policies and that they were based on long-standing traditions, customs and institutions from earlier pre-Islamic cultures that originated in the worlds of both the conquerors and the conquered. In its connections to Roman, Byzantine and Sasanian traditions, the book will appeal to historians of Europe as well as Arabia and Persia.
