The new edition of this book detailing the theory of linear-Hilbert space operators and their use in quantum physics contains two new chapters devoted to properties of quantum waveguides and quantum graphs. The bibliography contains 130 new items.
Papers in this volume are based on the Workshop on Symmetries in Physics held at the Centre de recherches mathematiques (University of Montreal) in memory of Robert T. Sharp. Contributed articles are on a variety of topics revolving around the theme of symmetry in physics. The preface presents a biographical and scientific retrospect of the life and work of Robert Sharp. Other articles in the volume represent his diverse range of interests, including representation theoretic methods for Lie algebras, quantization techniques and foundational considerations, modular group invariants and applications to conformal models, various physical models and equations, geometric calculations with symmetries, and pedagogical methods for developing spatio-temporal intuition. The book is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in group theoretic methods, symmetries, and mathematical physics.
This volume is based on the 2008 Clifford Lectures on Information Flow in Physics, Geometry and Logic and Computation, held March 12-15, 2008, at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. The varying perspectives of the researchers are evident in the topics represented in the volume, including mathematics, computer science, quantum physics and classical and quantum information. A number of the articles address fundamental questions in quantum information and related topics in quantum physics, using abstract categorical and domain-theoretic models for quantum physics to reason about such systems and to model spacetime. Readers can expect to gain added insight into the notion of information flow and how it can be understood in many settings. They also can learn about new approaches to modeling quantum mechanics that provide simpler and more accessible explanations of quantum phenomena, which don't require the arcane aspects of Hilbert spaces and the cumbersome notation of bras and kets.
Spring Man: A Belief Legend between Folklore and Popular Culture deconstructs the nationalistic myth of Spring Man that was created after the Second World War in visual culture and literature and presents his original form as an ambiguous, ghostly denizen of oral culture. Petr Janeček analyzes the archetypal character, social context, and cultural significance of this fascinating phenomenon with the help of dozens of accounts provided by period eyewitnesses, oral narratives, and other sources. At the same time, the author illustrates the international origin of the tales in the originally British migratory legend of Spring-heeled Jack that reaches back to the second-third of the nineteenth century, and Janeček also draws parallels between the Czech myth of Spring Man and similar urban phantom narratives popular in the 1910s Russia, 1940s United States and Slovakia, and 1950s Germany, as well as other parts of the world.
This volume contains the proceedings of a conference held from June 4-6, 2010, at Oklahoma State University, in honor of William (Bus) Jaco's 70th birthday. His contributions to research in low dimensional geometry and topology and to the American mathematical community, especially through his work for the American Mathematical Society, were recognized during the conference. The focus of the conference was on triangulations and geometric structures for three-dimensional manifolds. The papers in this volume present significant new results on these topics, as well as in geometric group theory.

The International Congress on Mathematical Physics is the flagship conference in this exciting field.
