Paradoxical Psychotherapy: A Practitioner’s Guide

This book reports the results of an evidence-based case study for mental disorders which show that PTC has been very successful in bringing about deep and constant therapeutic changes. In response to the need of a more efficient approach for the treatment of psychological disorders, especially the broad spectrum of anxiety disorders, the PTC psychotherapeutic model was developed. Results of the follow-up studies reported in the present book show that the relapse rate in this model is in its lowest level compared to other psychotherapeutic approaches. Simple nature of the PTC protocol, described within the present book, allows psychotherapists and clinical practitioners to use this newly developed psychotherapy model for the treatment of mental disorders. This newly developed psychotherapy model can be applied to new developments in the field of psychotherapy theory, research, and practice. All psychotherapy associations, psychotherapy societies, psychological associations, psychotherapy societies, healthcare organizations, and academic libraries are likely to be part of the readership of this book.

A White Rose at Midnight

On the cusp of independence, cultures collide in a bedroom in Singapore. As the Vietnam War rages on, the English-educated scholar Lee Hua Min—“the finest product of the University”—finds himself hopelessly disillusioned. Enter Wong Ching Mei, a Chinese-educated former nightclub singer seeking to enrol in Nanyang University. Mirroring the intense tussles between the English- and Chinese-speaking during Singapore’s formative years, Hua Min and Ching Mei trade ferocious barbs even as they are inexplicably drawn to each other. When Su-Ling, Hua Min’s ex-classmate, returns from London, Hua Min is torn between their advances and the extremely different worlds they inhabit. Humorous, witty and prescient, A White Rose At Midnight is a pithy portrait of a soul—and nation—divided. A White Rose At Midnight was first staged to critical acclaim by the Experimental Theatre Club in 1964. It was pioneer playwright Lim Chor Pee’s second and final play after the landmark Mimi Fan (1962). In 2014, Centre 42 mounted a partial dramatised reading of the play.

Sewn in Coal Country

By the mid-1930s, Pennsylvania’s anthracite coal industry was facing a steady decline. Mining areas such as the Wyoming Valley around the cities of Wilkes-Barre and Pittston were full of willing workers (including women) who proved irresistibly attractive to New York City’s “runaway shops”—ladies’ apparel factories seeking lower labor and other costs. The International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union (ILGWU) soon followed, and the Valley became a thriving hub of clothing production and union activity. This volume tells the story of the area’s apparel industry through the voices of men and women who lived it. Drawing from an archive of over sixty audio-recorded interviews wit...
