Understanding climate obstruction is foundational to advancing effective action on the global climate crisis. Starting in the late 1980s, a broad range of actors--including corporations and trade associations acting in coordination with conservative think tanks, foundations, and public relations firms--mounted a long-term effort to oppose action to mitigate the greenhouse gas emissions responsible for climate change. This is the first book to document the developmen...

Both Miranda Cabot and her sister Honor prefer their solitude to romance, Miranda having watched her husband die in flames on the Potomac River rocks called the Three Sisters. Not so the youngest, Sybil, who invites a mysterious Frenchman calling himself the Chevalier due bon Arnaque to stay with them in their mansion overlooking the Sisters. Misgivings about the stranger's intentions lead Miranda and Honor to ask their neighbors Dieter Heiliger and his grandson Corey to chaperone. Three beautiful, strong-willed women living in a house with three handsome, virile men results inevitably in an intricate web of jealousy, sex, and intrigue. Add in long-lost master artworks, stolen prototypes and a resident genius and you have a recipe for romance. Who will end up with whom, and will the Three Sisters take another life as the legend calls for?

Poverty and unemployment are on the rise among Canadian youth. Clearly something needs to change, but current social-assistance models are based on problematic assumptions about the lives and possible trajectories of "risky" young people. Reimagining Intervention in Young Lives explores the difficulties many marginalized young people encounter with the "support system" available to them, as well as the social forces that push them to the margins in the first place. Drawn from interviews with forty-five patrons of a youth drop-in centre, this important work resituates the nexus of the problem from the identification of individual "risk factors" to the recognition of the contradictions and barriers contained in the very social-aid structures that are meant to bring their target populations back in to the fold of "normal" society. Intervention is indeed necessary, but more to challenge the prevailing structures that incorrectly presume how youth themselves interpret risk, poverty, and, most important of all, their own potential.
