Guadalajara en sus jóvenes narradores
En el contexto del marco de Guadalajara Capital Mundial del Libro, desde la División de Estudios Históricos y Humanos y el Departamento de Letras de la Universidad de Guadalajara, se lanzó la convocatoria al concurso de cuento: Guadalajara en el siglo XXI a través de sus jóvenes narradores, dirigida a los estudiantes de nivel superior de esta institución. Con el propósito de honrar el lema de esta celebración, que concibe al libro y la lectura como herramientas de construcción de paz y que permitan a su vez difundir el conocimiento y la cultura, este concurso promueve la creación de historias de la vida cotidinana de nuestra ciudad, y aunado a ello el fortalecimiento de la idea de ser tapatío. Algunas de las historias que conforman esta publicación exponen la violencia como parte de la cotidianidad de la vida de los jóvenes. Este libro nos hace reflexionar acerca de lo que significa vivir en una ciudad desbordada por una agobiante e interminable violencia física, emocional, económica y cultural.
From Neediness to Fulfillment
Our relationships are unsatisfactory.They are conditioned by cultural, social and historical factors, which lead us to an inner emptiness. Through centuries of patriarchal leadership and feminine dependence we have arrived at the present situation...one of deep unsatisfaction. The neediness of so many women and the present day situation of lack of true encounter between men and women, has led the author to question, to observe and to suggest new solutions to our present challenges. We need to learn to relate to each other without hurting ourselves, to love each other without attaching one to another, to be accomplices respectful of our identities and freedom, to experience unity in diversity. ,
Transactions of the International Astronomical Union
IAU Transactions XXIIB summarizes the work of the XXIInd General Assembly. The discourses given during the Inaugural and Closing Ceremonies are reproduced in Chapters I and III, respectively. The proceedings of the two sessions of the General Assembly will be found in Chapter II, which includes the Resolutions and the report of the Finance Committee. The Statutes, Bye-Laws and a few working rules of the Union are published in Chapter IV. The Accounts and other aspects of the administration of the Union are recorded in Chapter V, together with the report of the Executive Committee for this last triennium, and provide the permanent record for the Union in the period 1991-1994. This volume also contains the Commission reports from The Hague compiled by the Presidents of the Commissions (Chapter VI). Finally, Chapter VII contains the list of countries adhering to the Union and the alphabetical, geographical and commission membership lists of about 8000 individual members. The IAU still appears to be unique among the scientific Unions in maintaining this category of individual membership which contributes in a crucial way to the spirit and the aims of the Union.

Beginning with volume 41 (1979), the University of Texas Press became the publisher of the Handbook of Latin American Studies, the most comprehensive annual bibliography in the field. Compiled by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress and annotated by a corps of more than 130 specialists in various disciplines, the Handbook alternates from year to year between social sciences and humanities. The Handbook annotates works on Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and the Guianas, Spanish South America, and Brazil, as well as materials covering Latin America as a whole. Most of the subsections are preceded by introductory essays that serve as biannual evaluations of the literature and research under way in specialized areas.
